Lol.

Marty St. Louis is 40 years old and demanded a trade.

No team is going to give up a Ryan Callahan calibre player for Plekanec, that was a perfect storm for the Lightning, Sather is in a big time win now mode, and they had the exact type of asset that would have appealed to the Lightning in the St. Louis deal.

pleky has more point per game average in his career and is one of the best 2-wayC in the league... in my opinion they're the same caliber and pretty close in value

Don't know, Petry seems to have the 'Bret Hedican Syndrome', does everything well, in fact, has everything to be a great player, but has a hard time putting up points.

Still love him, but more than 5M$/year would be foolish. (even then 5M$ seems a lot...)

I think it will come. The team has not exactly been lighting up the lamp lately.

I think he is worth 5 M even playing the way he is. The guy is capable of filling in first duo for stints if ever Markov or PK were to get hurt. When you look at what other guys are making, 5 M is not bad at all.

Give him time and I think he'll put up decent numbers while keeping the puck out of our net.

Tanev resigned for 4.45M.

Even though he still had RFA status, that bodes well for a possible Petry resigning.

He's 27, fits into our core, has size & uses it, also isn't afraid to shoot the puck, but he's quite positionally sound, has a very good stick.

He's a perfect #3, plus he's a RHD, I'm not sure why some people would bulk at a $5x5 deal for him, he solidifies our backend quite nicely, I've wanted him for 2 years so I'm very happy he's ours, points will come for him.

I'd be more than happy giving him that but since he's 27 I'd even be willing do give him a longer term if it meant a smaller cap hit. I think Jeff will be a quality d-man until he's 34-35 at least. It's not like I have superstar expectations for the guy, he'd be our go to 2nd pairing guy.

Funny seeing people complain about his physicality yet every time I watch us play recently he always seems to outmuscle opponents for the puck. To me he looks like our most physical defenseman on a shift-to-shift basis butI guess only big hits count for physicality around here...

Agreed, he doesn't do big hits but never get's outmuscled or scared like a Raphael Diaz. Who some people said was a top four guy

Diaz was a top 4 guy before his concussion. A pretty good one too. Scrambled brains will make anyone ineffective.

Two of Tanev's years are RFA and he's paid 3.25 in each of them then 5.25 for the remaining 3. If we use Tanev as a comparable you have to think that Petry would start at $5.25M

I think Petry has shown he's our 3rd best defensman in his time where behind PK and Markov. Once Beau kicks in I can see Petry and PK anchoring or top 2 RD positions and Beau and HOPEFULLY Tinordi anchoring the top 2 LD position.

Emelin just doesn't play with the consistency needed for a top 4 and he's gwttig paid top 4 coin. I can't see him here in 3 years at his current level of play. In the future I can easily see:

Beau PK
Tinordi Petry
Lernout Pateryn

Only time will tell but Petry is definately showing he belongs on our top 4

for the time being i'd just be happy to have this core for next season:

Markov - Subban
Beaulieu - Petry
Tinordi - Gilbert/Pateryn

Tinordi is the only wildcard, we'll have to see how he does next season. If we do manage to resign Petry then Emelin is as good as gone imo. He makes too much money for what he brings to the table.

Agreed.

Between Markov's aging, the general disappointment of Beaulieu and Tinordi, and the complete absence of credible D prospects in the system or credible D on the UFA market... the Montreal Canadiens NEED to resign Jeff Petry.

Bergevin better resign him.

Disappointment of Beaulieu? Who are you, Therrien? He's been very good since his call up & earned his spot on the team.

Emelin needs to stay too.

we'll have to see if he wants to sign here or not. Plus we'll need to see where the cap ends up, the loonie has been holding close to .80 so if that holds up over the next couple months we should see the cap go up a good bit but if it gets hit hard again that could mean the cap won't go up that much at all.

Beaulieu hasn't been that good, and 1 goal is not getting it done. He needs to be a lot better and produce at a much higher clip.
