We now have 4 players that can take faceoffs in Richards, Stepan, Miller and Boyle

So, Miller is 100% staying
This means Boyle has to be on the 4th, so Kreider is likely staying here too

If any of our centers go down, we're ****ed

Has to be a trade

I truly don't believe they were thinking about faceoffs when they made this move. Also, as mentioned, Powe is decent at faceoffs and probably better than Miller at this point.

This thread is starting to make me laugh. Now we are romanticizing Jeff Halpern?
Halpern was been romanticized long before this thread. I think it has less to do with him and more to do with Boyle. Like when fans were swooning over Joel Bouchard, I think it had more to do with Tom Poti.

Way too much angst in this thread for a guy who adds little to the team and won't be here next year. Halpern is very easy to replace if he gets claimed. If he doesn't get claimed, then we have the option of sending him down if we need to.

We won't know anything more until tomorrow at the earliest, most likely.

I really liked Halpern and his hustle. I'm surprised that he's on waivers and feel bad for him...

But then I think of how little our bottom 6 is contributing and well, if you need change, you have to make changes. He hasn't scored, and he's one of the new faces that's not a prospect.

Good luck Halpern, hopefully you quickly land a job on another NHL team.

Our beat writers suck. Plain and simple. The team waives a center in Halpern today who hasn't looked that bad. None of them comment on it at all....

It seems like lately Katie Strang breaks news before all the Ranger beat writers

Been saying this for a while, they're terrible. Strang is the top dog for sure these days. Brooks is good for his "business side" analysis. But you're right, nobody breaking down the waiving, and that's sad.

The only guy who did break it down at all was Patrick Kearns.

I don't get this really.

Halpern is a decent face off guy and good PK player. He was actually one of the few players on this team who consistently skated with some purpose. Sure, he's gotten a grand total of about 5 scoring chances all year, but at least he provides depth down the middle. If you waive him you might as well waive Powe too...

To make room for Asham and Haley? What have these guys done? Haleys provided the same game as far as im concerned and the last time I checked he cant take faceoffs, or PK. Oh yeah he fights, i think. Havent seen it much from him.

This is a head scratcher for me, unless they need to clear a contract for a move. But the guy has the lowest cap hit of all the forwards on the team. Odd.

I liked Halpern. I thought he played well. Then again, he is a bit redundant with Powe and Boyle.

I agree with that, I just don't see the reasoning behind singling Halpern out when Pyatt has been just as bad. Powe has produced no offense. Neither has Boyle. Asham hasn't played much.

Even with Halpern's redundancy, I think he brings much more to the table than Pyatt. That guy has been invisible for a long time now.

This is idiotic. Halpern was the least of the bottom six issues. He's terrific defensively, great on face offs, and hustles. Still a fast skater.

He's been significantly better than Pyatt, Boyle, Asham, Powe, and the rest of the revolving turnstile of crap getting bottom six minutes.

He's been clearly the best signing from the offseason. No, he doesn't contribute offensively, but none of these scrubs do. Why get rid of the best defender among them?

I'm disgusted. This guy should be kept and resigned for next year.

Good move. I'm assuming Boyle takes his rightful role of fourth line center of this move.

Okay, I feel better now, Sting agrees with me!

I feel 110% the same way. Just doesn't make sense to me at all.

I don't know if he should be resigned but agreed, he's been more noticeable than the rest of the bottom 6.

I don't feel as strongly about it as you do, but there have been some bad decisions by management this year. Wasting Miller's ELC, dicking around Kreider at the beginning of the year instead of letting him stay in the AHL, not resigning MZA....disappointing.

You know your good defensively when you have 0 goals on the year and the fan base still likes you.
