More like saying that just being okay isn't good enough.

But the rest of those guys, who are playing like ****, just continue as is, I guess.

In the end, Halpern was a dirt cheap center who was doing his job. Im confused about the move.

guy sucked...get over it....if he is so great why did they choose him over all of the other guys who sucked on those lines, he is 36 years old, soft as ****, had 13 shots on the year, 1 hit per game and i am sure the guy he was hitting didnt even feel it, blocked 13 shots on the year...what will we do without him

Could see the Canucks claiming him. As of right now we have 6 forwards injured, Keith Ballard is playing on are 3 rd line

He's a useful player. A lot of posters downplay him because he isn't Brandon Prust.

Halpern is fine for face-offs and penalty killing but the 3rd and 4th lines have produced almost nothing offensively--and have not been very good on the forecheck. IMO--they've been momentum killers. A guy like Halpern is a 36 year old veteran. IMO we'd be better off with someone younger from Hartford if he can slot into a pk role and provide more youthful enthusiasm. Anyway just because he's waived doesn't mean he's going anywhere. Unless someone grabs him I suspect he's going to remain with the team for at least the next couple weeks.

Going forward--if this team continues to underachieve the way it has so far--I think there will or should be a number of other players who walk the plank.

For instance, as of now I'd seriously be considering using our second buyout option on Richards over the summer. Pyatt and Boyle--two other underachieving veteran bottom 6 forwards would also be on their way out and I'd be exploring Gaborik as well.

A lot of posters downplay him because he brings no offense and no grit.

If you want a guy that is defensively responsible and will bring nothing else, but also won't necessarily take away from your team, claim him.

he will be great for you...

I'm confused this completely went against your last post.

Rangers are my second favorite team so I've tried watching as many games as I can. Really haven't noticed Halpern much but seems like a solid pickup for Vancouver, the Canucks centre depth is putrid. He's left handed right?

Halpern being waived is a case of "we need to do something, so let's bully a guy not making alot of money" **** this organization.

He's a righty shot.

He isn't "tough", but he's smart, quick, a good PKer, and good defensively at ES. He's not going to give you much offense, if any at all, but he is an extremely useful utility player. Good veteran, fourth line leader.

Unless we're trading for a center man, this is a move which makes no sense. He'd be an excellent pickup for Vancouver.

Or it could be, "you haven't done anything this season so we'll plug that hole with anything else"

I like how every single player needs to add grit. Some just don't. That's not the type of player he is.

Halpern is fast, great on the PK and overall just very defensively responsible. He will find a suitor.

I wasn't serious...sorry for the confusion...listen, if you need someone for a few games until your players get healthy then it is not a bad idea...he will in half his faceoffs and give you an ok effort and kill penalties. he is an average to below average play at this stage of his career

on a team with no grit...that is a problem...listen on the Bruins or the Leafs or any team that isn't the Rangers he might not be a bad fit...on our team...he is a terrible fit, said it from day one and I will say it again

Youre just not getting it. If you're going to go with the mentality above, well, 1 down and like 12 to go I guess.

The people who are happy about this are the ones who have been screaming for some red meat, and they got it, I guess.

Too bad it was the cheap utility guy that was actually doing his job - and may have actually gotten a pat on the back if the stiffs above him were actually doing theirs.

I'm fine with players not adding grit. I don't expect Gaborik, Hagelin, Kreider, Nash, Richards, Stepan, etc to add grit. Because they provide offense.

Even if he was providing a little offense on that 4th line i'd be fine with it. Fact is, he's not. He's proven time and time again that he can't any longer.

If you're not bringing scoring and not bringing grit, being defensively responsible isn't enough. You need to produce in some way on those bottom lines. PK'ing and faceoffs are easily replaced.

Yep he does sound like a pretty damn good fit with Vancouver. If GMMG does pick him up I hope he also makes a deal for a scoring centre, because like you guys have mentioned Halpern was kinda like Pahlsson last year minus giving up assets for him. He'd likely play on the teams 4 th line with Lappy shifting to the wing. Thanks for the insight bud!

This, exactly. Halpern was a sacrificial lamb. I understand fans thinking like that. For organizational brass to behave that way is embarrassing.

12 to go? why 12?

I think there are maybe 3 or 4 other guys that need to be moved. Richards is a different story as i'd like to keep him but contract issues arise. Other than that, the bottom six needs an overhaul.

I think kreider and miller should be given a shot to stick. they can be good offensively and grow on that third line. leave them with boyle. someone who can open up space and be very defensively responsible.

Powe, Pyatt and Halpern all need to go. They just don't bring anything. I don't know how anyone can argue that.

tonight on the hallmark channel.... Jeff H. ... a love story....

Halpern has not been effective offensively.

...but neither has Powe, Asham, Bickel, Boyle, Pyatt. Why do those players, who have contributed even less, get a pass?

If anything, Bickel of Asham should have been waived. Bickel continues to ge chance after chance, yet he adds nothing of value to this roster aside from fighting. I thought we were trying to move away from enforcers? Guess that's what happens when you let a talented enforcer like Prust go for nothing.

No worries man. Sorry for intruding your guys board! But hey if the Canucks fail to make the playoffs this year I'll be here for the Rangers playoff run. Best of luck this year guys, you guys have hell of a team don't beat yourself up over a slow start I see either one of are teams having an LA like run this year.
