Devils essentially gave up the same value for an older, declining defenseman as the Rangers did for Trouba...

Don't get me wrong, I think the trade is a good move for the Devils but they aren't getting prime Subban.

There is a reason why Nashville let him go and it isn't entirely salary related. They could have created that space by doing other things if they really wanted to keep him.

Didn't Gorton begin a rebuild 2 years ago and already looks to be well on his way to turning the corner?

I'd put good money that 4 years out from the start of the rebuild, the Rangers will be right in the middle of the playoff hunt and trending upwards.

The "official" rebuild letter was sent out from the organization Feb 2018, but 2 years is about right.
