The hold up was most probably from Houle, who might have been looking for an NHL gig. Maybe he had discussions with NHL coaches who might have had interest in hiring him as an assistant coach. And when that didn't pan out, he was willing to sign an extension.

And from Montreal's POV, they expressed their interest in extending him, but also probably gave him the opportunity to explore that avenue while giving him a deadline to when he will give them an answer.

Yeah I think this scenario probably makes the most sense.

Happy to have him locked up for a while as he has done a tremendous job thus far and seems like a perfect fit with all of the valuable assets that will be learning under him over the next few sesons.

The witch hunt is over for the mob so please put away the pitch forks and arm yourselves with reason and fair opinions from here on out please....:)

I am unhappy with this development, I wished we looked elsewhere for an upgrade.

This is a fair and reasoned opinion.

Two things needed to address the roster:

- sign a vet goalie right away and not wait to the mid-season. And best would be an NHL deal so they can call that goalie and let Dobes continue to cook.
- sign better vets and some with size preferably. Best case is they would be role players because skilled vets will groan at their limited ice time because the prospects are the priority.

The good thing is Dobes is entering his 2nd year and this should provide solid goaltending from day 1.

Bring Brandon Baddock back

Yesterday, Marcotte was the guest on Marinaro's podcast and they spoke about what they might do to replace Buchberger. Marcotte wondered if they would hire a D coach or would they maybe move Laperriere to the D where, as you mentioned yesterday, that was his role with the Remparts. And maybe they bring in someone from the QMJHL with the intention of putting in place to eventually be the next guy.

It wouldn't be a bad move to have Laperriere move to the D coach and maybe hiring Favreau to coach the forwards and get on the job training to maybe succeed Houle afterwards.

Marinaro also asked Marcotte about Byron (Marcotte had brought his name up before). He said that if he wants to coach, he believes the job is his. But if he doesn't want to coach yet or doesn't want to at all, then he will stay in his current role.

Going by what Sedgwick did late season, I don't expect any of that...

He was involved prior to last year no?
Poulin, Richard, Belpedio, Stephens, Gignac, Abbandonato, Dube, Galipeau. Those guys were good targets.
He was named GM of Laval only in March this year. He was supposedly "in charge" since Mellanby left in 2021, but after he got the official title the trades that happened to supposedly help the team for the PO were just swapping players around instead of getting the help needed for the last stretch.

And the vets don't seems to want to stick around (although, that might be more a coaches thing). I can get it for the dmen, just way too many prospects, but at forwards there is plenty of spots for vets.

Domingue would be great. If not, wouldn't be against getting Rodrigue, Driedger, Dipietro or Dell if they are available. Or bring Kaskisuo back.

I'd still go or at least one great vet like Gaudette or Tynan to be the offence lead with Gignac. Or maybe Richard if he wants to come back.

Baddock hasn't been great the last two years. The dream would be getting a guy like Jeffrey Viel.

Sabourin or Douglas could also be good 2nd tier option.

I hope they at least bring McKay if they don't upgrade.

We have plenty of vet spots, but not a lot of roster spots. You could already pretty much ice a full team with who we have right now.

11-12 fwd (depends on Roy AHL or NHL), 5 D and 1 G are already on the roster.

Because he’s gotten progressively worse over the past 3 years. ”insert” Einstein quote regarding insanity here.

If you look at it from him coaching Laval to the ECF to them losing in the first round to not qualifying for the playoffs, sure, it doesn't look great. But what is the mandate he was given by management? Of course they don't tell him to lose, but the organization wants to prioritize the development of the prospects. And in that regard, you can't fully argue against Houle.

It's not like everything he touches turns to gold. But you take a look at how prospects improved under him and a number of players fit in when they were called up to Montreal.

He also doesn't shelter the prospects, he puts most of them in key roles like Top-6 and PP/PK.

« Fiston ». :sarcasm:

RDS Cringe Warp Factor 9 interview that adds nothing to the contract extension announcement.
To this day, I still have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that JFH is his legit son  You could not picture two more physically different people if you tried, He does have his old man's hair though, he'll probably never go bald. Lucky bastard

Yes that would make sense

Byron doesn’t look like someone who wants to coach

They do need to get bigger, something Houle mentioned in his press briefing yesterday.
