The panarin line has been atrocious
Since signing, laf thinks he is panarin and can just hang out in the neutral zone waiting for offensive opportunities
His game was better when he was cycling and forechecking with Chytil and Kakko
Trocheck looks like he had his career year and is back to being an avg mid 6 C
Mika is just awful
If u can't score anymore at least play defense..
The D can't play man to man and most certainly aren't smart enough to play a hybrid man to man..
Dumb it down, play zone
On the bright side, Kakko was very good. Despite having a 4th liner and Smith on his wings, that line was our best. Proof the KK is driving the line
Great to see
Cuylle and Berard also were great

It got into the public realm yesterday, so whatever tensions or dysfunction there might've been behind closed doors between players and staff/management is now out in the open. We're probably looking at mutiny by the leadership group. Maybe Drury wants this, or maybe he miscalculated. But how can we be mad at Drury? He's doing what we're all thinking about anyway. Yes, he did tie one hand behind his back with bad contracts, but all teams, not just in hockey but in sports generally, carry a couple of bad contracts. Shocking.

There's definitely a rift in the locker room. Young guys breaking out but dont play over underperforming vets, Igor contract drama, etc. There have been rumblings for years that drury isnt in love with the guys he inherited (Panarin, Kreider, trouba). It's all coming to a head now and honestly its for the best. The sooner they are through the woods, the sooner they can get their season back on track. I believe in the youth.

He obviously sees the need to course correct this before the season is lost. He and his staff had no real option than to run it back with essentially the same group and see how far they could replicate last year. The goaltending had been able to cover up the litany of warts of this group but no longer it seems. It's past the point where Quick and Shesty can bail them out period after period, game after game. They're facing shots in the slot uncontested, with no teammate even within the TV frame.

Imo Drury has been at odds with this locker room since he became GM. At best there has been a wary truce. Moving Buch at any cost, bringing in Goodrow and continued promotion of room favorites Trouba and Lindgren were part of his strategy to have a strong locker room, which to his credit does seem important to him.

But now things are basically back at at square one. The vets have been given all kinds of room and space to shine, they even physically shoehorned Lindy in next to Fox. They've been as patient as possible with Trouba. Now it's clear to everyone it's no longer working, the vets are in a funk (again) and Drury is pissed off.

Nobody can have any issues with a solid house cleaning at this point. We can only hope Drury has a clear plan and identified targets for the refurbishment.

The rest of the team was abysmal. The usual suspects gave us more of the same. And Lafreniere and Trocheck are playing too much like Panarin. The line worked when they would do the things that Panarin doesn’t do. But now all three of them want to hang around the perimeter and look to thread the needle with a perfect pass. If he’s healthy, I would put Chytil back on that line to get some straight ahead play out of them.

This is perfectly put, spot on.

That line works when Trocheck and Lafreniere are winning the battles and constantly moving opening up lanes, now they're all hanging on the perimeter and trying to make rinkwide seam passes through 5 guys every single time they have the puck. Those plays only open up when you're moving all the time and confusing the defenders. Also have to keep them honest and attack in different ways, we're not seeing any of that.

I'm gonna get hate for this, but I still maintain that as many great things as Panarin has brought here, he's also influenced greatly how this group plays. And he's a regular season star only.

If we shed, Panarin we will be a far worse team. This has been discussed ad nauseam. However, his high risk decision-making and questionable back checking definitely permeate the lineup. Other guys copy him by slowing the game down, going East-West, looking for fancy rather than ugly goals, etc.

The group looks to him like Keanu Reeves Neo, waiting for him to do something magical. And while he comes through a lot of times, it's not a winning formula.

Drury and Lav's bold "message" will probably include - scratch Zac Jones, less minutes for Cuylle and Kakko, demote Laf, Berard sent back down, maybe a Kreider trade. Not expecting much from this sackless coach and GM.

It was good to see him step up and take responsibility post game. On ice he skates and tries to make things happen. Too often in the past he was in a world of his own, aloof.

Mika had a rough game. Trouba and Lindgren were brutal, as they are every night.

Time to take Mika off of PP1. His performance on the first goal against is inexcusable. Weak ass pass to Trouba that arrives like a grenade, which Trouba unsurprisingly fumbles then falls, then Mika doesn’t even cover his man in the slot.

Mikka had a rough turnover game but actually showed some hustle and effort before the 3rd period took place. Then he went back to his normal "I'm too pretty to play hockey attitude."

If you're going to make bad plays at least look like you're trying to get those goals back. And he just gave up.
