I'm going to go out on a limb and say there is no way Struble isn't prepared to play 82 games this season.

He definitely won a spot especially since we might need to dress 7 D if Xhekaj get kick out of game.
I am becoming more and more a fan of Jayden Struble! He doesn't belong near an AHL roster

I liked Struble a lot yesterday, his aggression is so refreshing to see. As long as Struble can play the right side, for me he's better than Mailloux or Barron at this point. I'm starting to lose a bit of faith in Barron, but I think Mailloux has some good runway ahead of him to develop and take off.

There is no reason to believe that they "hate with vitriol" any player who prescribes to retribution play. I would bet money that they believe that it plays a necessary role but they are not old school troglodytes in the manner in which they think it should be managed.
You need to step up and show push back which doesn't have to involve maiming a player but there is a need for a statement to be made and a line drawn in the sand. Anyone who has played the game at a relatively competitive level would have experienced this and would understand the effect that it has on the bench.

I've dismissed and overlooked this guy all summer. He beat out Xhekaj last year. He made Harris redundant (and I really like Harris). Now he's outplayed all the contenders this camp.
At some point the Habs have got to give this guy the reins. He's earned it.

He’s a keeper. In the game against the Senators, Struble played physical and showed good mobility, offensive vision and a strong first pass.
I suspect that in the Laine transaction, Columbus inquired about Struble and settled for Harris. I think Hughes did very well to retain Struble, who plays hard and has a leadership role written all over him. And I like the very underrated Harris.

Struble is a phenomenal athlete. Didn't become a one sport, just hockey, guy until he was 17. I actually think his ceiling could be 2nd pairing. I wasn't crazy about his decision-making when I watched him play at Northeastern but it's gotten way better. He has simplified his game for the NHL, which I guess he realized he had to do to make it.

There is little doubt in my mind this is what happened. Both Harris and Struble have a strong head on their shoulders, don't take things for granted and consequently have a solid work ethic
Harris had the edge skating wise IMO (not that Struble is a bad skater at all), but Struble is much stronger and is necessary if this team wants any semblance of "team toughness"

Yep i agree. He is way more solid than Xhekaj defensively. And he is the best D we could hope for on the left side behind Matheson and Hutson.

Not sure we should be taking Xhekaj out of the lineup, or putting Xhekaj at RD though.

I agree we need his presence.No doubt about that.
I would definately put him on the 4th line. He is a solid skater that could be a hell of a fore checker.

This says it all. Struble's skill set, physicality and leadership component projects as having a larger contribution/positive impact on the team's fortunes going forward. That determination made Hughes' decision ( if it did come down to choosing between these two promising defencemen) a lot easier.

Its a puzzle. But there will be more injuries...
I have a rotation between Struble, Xhekaj, and Barron for the last two D spots. Mailloux and Engstrom in Laval.
Nothing but LOVE all the way back to when he was just an after thought in our prospect pool.
I started watching him play and I immediately said "There is something about this guy"
The consensus was their was no offensive upside.
I saw a number of games where he just took off and couldn't be stopped before he got the puck to the net.
We saw the same thing Laval.
I laughed like hell at him the other night when he rushed the puck split the D and a had a clear run to the net.
He looked so surprised when he came out in space he didn't know what to do.
His pass attempt was pathetic though. He'll learn.
