100% he signs, he spent some time in MTL last summer and was spending time with Hughes’ kids.
Do we have the space to sign him?
I don’t expect anything from Sund, but who knows? See how Struble looks as a pro before dumping on him. The habs have way better depth on D than I would have thought coming into the year but it’s not like they are completely set or anything. He will sign, but we will let Gorniak and Vrbetic go.
split chance on Nissen Dichow.
Curius about Sund.
I think we sign Struble, Farrell and Dobes this summer.
Martineay went to visit all of the Boston area NCAA prospects in November. These are two quotes from the Struble interview:
- I want to become a Canadiens player. It's the organization that drafted me and it has a rich history. I have a lot of respect for the team and the recent hires in management.
Regarding the competition on D:
- I haven't seen who I need to compete with for a spot. I feel I can compete with anybody.
Sund was just a throw-in...you have to take on a player when you're brokering a deal (aka eating salary) as a 3rd party.I don’t expect anything from Sund, but who knows? Struble isn't a guy who is ready to play in the NHL like Harris was when we signed him. So I don't think he's looking at that right now. Go to the AHL and try to make the Canadiens, if you hit a log jam and can't make it, you'll make a statement with your play and get moved anyways.
Isn't he unsigned though? This wouldn't have an impact on the 50 contract spot limit unless we're talking about the organizational slotsSund was just a throw-in...you have to take on a player when you're brokering a deal (aka eating salary) as a 3rd party.
There's zero plans for him.
Yes, I the Sharks and now the Montreal Canadiens just own his rights, which should be expiring soon.Isn't he unsigned though? This wouldn't have an impact on the 50 contract spot limit unless we're talking about the organizational slots
It doesn't impact the contract slot, it was just about moving something for something. Instead of future considerations, they traded Sund.Isn't he unsigned though? This wouldn't have an impact on the 50 contract spot limit unless we're talking about the organizational slots
If it’s chronic is not behind him…I'm all for him getting his ELC, now that his chronic injury issues are behind him. In a worst case scenario he still has solid bottom pairing pro potential, with a possibility for more.
Struble can play RD… where Habs are weak. Savard is gone in 1-2 years. We have Matheson, Gulhe, Xhekaj, Harris, Edmundson, Hutson, Engstrom all in front of him not sure why he would sign…

He had a long time issue ( to his shoulder or abdominal muscle I think, I forgot what exactly) that was finally properly diagnosed and taken care of last year.If it’s chronic is not behind him…
Plus if he goes to AHL in his first ELC year, shows he's a physical beast with more puck moving skill than his stats show, he can easily make it as 3rd LD the following year. As much as fans fall in love with players, it's highly unlikely all of Guhle, Harris, Barron, Xhekaj pan out. Moreover, Matheson and Harris both can play RD and knowing Habs, they'll be ton of injuries too.Edmundson will be traded.
Hutson will go back in NCAA and Engstrom will be in Europe. So Struble would not be competing with them. He's ahead of them because he'll get his opportunity now whereas Hutson and Engstrom would get theirs in a year or two.
