Value of: Jason Robertson to the Ottawa Senators

Robertson has played all 82 games over the past three years. I feel like you are trying to create this narrative that everyone would take Stutzle over Robertson because Robertson does drive play or isn't healthy consistently. Even though Robertson's value is as a finisher, he averages more primary assists a year compared to Stutzle over the past three seasons. So this idea that Robertson can't create is just wrong - unless you are saying the bar is higher than Robertson and Stutzle and neither can create.

Robertson over the past three years:
Averages less ice time
Less PP time
Fewer O-zone starts
BUT
More points
More Goals
More primary assists
better primary/secondary assist numbers
better defensive metrics
better ES results

Stutzle has three things over Robertson:
1) Position
2) Age
3) PP ability

To me, Robertson is a better passer, better shooter, bigger, more durable, more effective in his minutes, and substantially better defensively.

How that means all of these talking heads that I still dont have reference or lists for take Stutzle over Robertson is surprising to me.
I'd argue that you're missing the biggest thing that differentiates Stutzle positively from Robertson, which is his ability in transition.

Agree to disagree then, Robertson is one of the slowest wingers in the league and that detracts from his game to a large degree in many systems. And also if we're gonna compare Brady, your size argument goes away and you're left with two big hurt guys, one who lead their team in goals and scoring in the playoffs and the other who has been a total ghost in the same playoffs
And a big guy who in the previous two seasons had quite productive playoffs with 34 points in 38 games.

We can agree to disagree, that's fine. I've never compared him to brady, I compared him to Stutzle only, although I probably would take Robertson over Brady as well but I haven't looked into the numbers.

I can't find available metrics to quantify transitions for both players. I will say, when Robertson is more productive in both the offensive and defensive zones, the transition part of it isn't incredibly high on my list.

Ya, Robo is great, not saying he isn't, but if its a trade, Timmy has much more value given his age and the contract situations and there is no one(or very few I suppose) that would argue otherwise

Honestly, it's a really interesting poll to throw up there on who has more value. Then we can argue back and forth there lolol

The problem Ottawa has is a lack of extra assets to trade for Robertson.

The whole point of acquiring him would be to overload the roster to put it into contention. Trading Brady or Stu for Robertson makes the roster worse.

If Pierre Dorion hadn't stripped the club of assets in a failed attempt to make the playoffs, they could realistically make it work with picks/prospects since Dallas has obviously replaced Robertson with Rantanen now.
