Somewhat. Pavelski was really slow on the rush but he would pull defenders to the front of the net which made more space for everyone else. I think everything went right for Robertson last season and he can't replicate that.

I don’t think that explains it at all…I mean, did he all of a sudden become slow? I understand foot injury, but I think he was already slow. I think it’s a combination of simply a slow stretch and him being a more known commodity now and teams focusing on defending him more than they might have in the past

coming into this season Robertson was playing to a 1.07 PPG pace.

this season, Robertson is at a 0.58 PPG pace… that’s an absurd dip in production.

infact over an 82 game season, he’s on pace for 48 (!!!) points.

he currently sits at:

5 goals,
9 assists,
14 points in 24 games played.

he’s in the midst of just a brutal stretch of hockey…

7 points in his last 14 games played and just one goal. what’s even more baffling is… he’s barely shooting the puck. just 28 shots on goal in those 14 games is not going to cut it. this season he’s averaging 2.37 shots on goal per game. the year he was an all star (2 seasons ago) he was averaging nearly FOUR shots on goal per game. that’s an insnae dip in numbers!!

he’s signed at a whopping near 8 million a year for one more season after this one.

so for those who have watched him play this season/have any idea what to make of all of this… help me understand. has he been as putrid as his stats say?

He was ass in far too many play off games last spring too.

I always found Hintz to be a way more dynamic player than Robertson, when I watched Dallas. Speed wise, or even creativity wise. Robertson mostly hovered around the net and put some pucks in. Could still be a useful player obviously.

He was the ultimate complimentary player

Heiskanen is probably partly to blame here as well. When Robertson had his career year with 109 points, Heiskanen also had his own career year with 73 points, then Heiskanen regressed to 54 points and Robertson followed by dipping to 80 points. Now Heiskanen is struggling to get the puck out of his own zone and is on pace to barely surpass 40 points. No wonder Robertson, who is one of the slowest players in the league, will take a hit since Heiskanen is unable to set him up with some sweet outlet passes this year...

Stars may have dodged a massive bullet with this contract. He got locked in as a 79-point sophomore, right before the massive 109-point season. If what we’re seeing right now is his future, then one more year at $7.75M won’t be too hard to swallow. Eat it and move on.

Imagine if they’d signed him long term after his 109-point season. That could have been franchise altering.

That already kind of happened with the Benn and Seguin contracts. They both regressed significantly not long after signing them. But drafting of Robertson, Hintz, Heiskanen, etc made it so it wasn’t that big of a deal. Would have been hard to hit on the draft again to make up for something similar with Robertson.

No, he's always been slow. But there will always be a point where a player can become too slow to get to their spots.

I only brought it up because there are actual metrics showing how slow he's actually been this season, and there is no other reason jumping out at me to explain it.

And it's not just scoreboard watching. I get that players slump/streak all the time, but he actually LOOKS terrible too. It seems like he is never where he needs to be.

Yeah,Tkachuk would never get accused of being a fast or great skater. But he's more of a passer/set-up guy than Robertson.

I had a feeling that Pavelski was the line driver on that line and he made Robertson look a lot better than he really is.

Robertson needs to play with someone who can drive his line.

That’s the thing with surgery it’s not always just an if thus then that. People recover differently and have different lingering effects.

Young pkayer, who are gifted to score, often take a step back as the league figures them out.

Finally dropped him from my fantasy team so I suspect he'll be back on the up and up.

Goal scorers are streaky, even the better ones. Imagine if he gets it going in the spring nobody will remember his start.

Maybe. Foot surgery is serious shit, hope he recovers fully and can improve his skating a bit.

Everyone in here like “oh I knew slow skaters were shit.” Meanwhile Sam Reinhart be wreckin stuff, and you don’t comment on that. I’d say the foot surgery is a bigger factor than anything else.
