Jared Bednar Discussion

Bednar wasn't hired by CMac, he isn't "his" coach and I don't think Bednar is finishing the season in Denver.

The next logical step after what CMac has done this season is getting a new coach.

On top of that Bednar acted today like he wasn't aware of the Rantanen trade, he said that he was shocked to learn it. Not normal.

They worked together in Columbus while Bednar coached and CMac ran the FO for the Monsters. I don't think it's a coincidence that Jared was hired a year after CMac was. They're close

The more I think about it, the more I want to see Coach Q here again. Yeah, the first time didn't go well but it was the beginning of the Cap Era where the Avs just lost Foppa and Foote, no goaltending, and Sakic and Blake in their twilight years. Would be interesting to see what he could do with these guys.

Bednar's team only allowed 15 shots and you want to fire him? You can maybe blame him for the PP but to each their own I guess.

There would be a vocal group of people harrassing us about it at all times, including some of our own fans

I don't see what a change in coach would do midseason. Would certainly hurt the org reputation firing a guy during a run of injuries and taking away his star. I certainly can agree things are stale and would love to see them change some philosophy just to have some options in the postseason. Some of this is just typical midseason malaise but if they run into a wall in the postseason they better have some options.

They also scored 1 goal and have been playing like shit for most of the year, often looking disinterested and unmotivated. Can't blame Georgiev and injuries for that anymore.

What it would do is HOPEFULLY reduce the minutes top guys played.

Necas averaged 17-18 in Carolina. On day 1 he plays 25 here because Bednar has no strategy other than "top guys get out there."

This isn't a video game. There is a reason MacKinnon and Makar look exhausted during games, and looked exhausted last playoffs. Bednar doesn't get it.

That is on top of how lethargic they have looked as a team for 3 months and the analytics support this.

4 losses in the last 5 games

If CMac was thinking about getting a coaching change this season, tomorrow is the time to do it.

Perfect timing after the trade and this bad road trip.

Nah, 5 games to go before the Four Nations.

Let’s go lose those games first.

Bednar overplays the top guys because the forward group is trash.

That's harsh, but who is he supposed to play more? Kelly (13:06), Kiviranta (12:53), and O'Connor (14:54) are at the upper peak of their ice time. Colton (16:16) and Mittelstadt (17:43) have been hot dog water for 30 games, I don't see the justification to give them more ice time when the goal is to win games.

Drury's ice time (13:13) is reasonable and I expect it to tick up. Parssinen is probably the one guy you can point to and say "he needs a bigger role," and the staff is giving him a shot the last few games (12:22). All that's left is Miles Wood, a known 4th liner.

There are legit gripes about this coaching staff, but prime Al Arbour couldn't squeeze more juice out of this group. Read the Trade Rumors thread and try to track all the different players, positions, and roles being discussed as trade targets. This Swiss cheese line-up needs help everywhere.

That's why we need to add some serious depth to this team. Scoring potential. Net presence.

I’m not for getting rid of Bednar, although I get why some are. This bolded however, should be a complete non factor imo. If there is a coach out there that the Avs covet, they will not turn the job down due to the previous coaches firing regardless of any circumstance.

If we were to get rid of Bednar, what are people’s preferred replacement? Obviously Q has been brought up multiple times but who else?
