I'm not sure if people are being serious in this thread? Presently coming 13th overall. Half our top 6 forwards having been out most of the season so far, an entire switch up in the goalie tandem, our main stay at home D-man out most of the season, and an utterly injured line-up.

Last game we had these players in the line-up: Wagner, Kelly, Felhaber, Ivan, Kiviranta, Middleton, Malinski - names most didn't have in their projected line-ups to start the season, but due to having Drouin, Landeskog, Wood, Manson, Kylington & others unavailable.

BUT, we still are 3 games over .500. I can't wait until we get healthy, AND we gave good goalies. Our trajectory is going to be sky high. Have some patience guys. The locker room is stale? Ooooof, boy do I disagree.

There would be 31 other teams in the league lining up to sign coach Bednar.

I'm sorry buddy. I'm not calling for Bednar's head by any means. But I do believe that after 10 years together the core and the coach are probably not really trying much new. It's a decade of the same game plan.

I think it is fair to have the conversation. I don't think one side is right or wrong in it though. I'm torn from one post to another how I feel about the dude. I respect and love the hell out of him and he's always going to be the first coach to win three championships at three different professional levels of hockey. He's always going to be the guy that got hired for the worst job in modern NHL history. Lived through the pain of that first season and got to work building a team that just a few years later would hoist the Stanley Cup. There is so much to love about the guy... but in professional hockey, coaches simply do not get 10+ years except in extreme cases. The normal life expectancy has risen for an NHL coach and I believe it is up to about 2.5 years from about 2 yeas in the 2010s.

It is also not the coaching staff's fault if the players can't string two passes in a row and loses every single board battles...........or half the team has the flu. Well maybe the board battles are. I guess the coaches could show them videos of other teams that are good on the boards. People make a lot of jokes about Bednar telling them to work harder as an adjustment but the truth is most of the times their 2nd and 3rd periods are much better because they ARE working harder and coming up with the puck on the boards and creating turnovers with great forechecking. Unfortunately they are usually down 1 to 3 goals by then.

Do I think the message get stale sometimes? Yes I do. However I still don't see any indications that he has lost the room. But something needs to be done with the bad starts though.

Now saying that, if Torts freed up, that's the guy. Totally different personality and system behind the bench and one that will be willing to do some difficult things. It would likely alienate some players, and the offensive numbers would drop... but you can be damn sure he'd get a lot out of this team. You may just be putting out some fires in 3-4 years.

Some very valid points on both sides, and honestly I probably wouldn't be opposed to bringing Q back despite the awfulness of what happened with the Blackhawks. I'm also in the boat of lets wait a week or two to see if this is just an illness thing or if maybe things really are that stale. Since we've seen the potential at times throughout this year.

Realistically though if things continue to go bad I'm half jokingly expecting to see a headline of "Bednar fired, Ray Bennett named interim" and for us all to lose our shit even more .

I'm just morally opposed to Q.

It's got nothing to do with hockey. It's got everything to do with him intentionally trying to bury a sex scandal, covering up for the perp and even giving him a letter of recomendation afterwards from what I've heard.

This is not a guy I want anywhere near my team. I believe in second chances. I've been extending a third one to Nuke. Q is not a guy I want to hitch my wagon to.

Luckily there's a near zero chance of it happening. Bednar isn't going anywhere.

The rape coach would likely be bad for the hockey side as well. Players are people too and it's safe to say the majority would not be happy to be playing under the rape coach.

Team doesn’t have nearly the number of value contracts as it did during peak contention. That's not exactly Bednar's fault. Team is struggling in the standings not because they have tuned Bednar out (I really can't say whether that's true or not), but because of calamitous goaltending, injuries, and less talent up and down the lineup.

Like many a veteran team, Avs will find a way to get into the playoffs (rather than fight and scratch and claw for the President's Trophy), and most likely lose, but also possibly win if certain things go right.

I suppose if there was a guy I'd consider replacing Bednar with, it's possibly Bruce Boudreau. I've always liked Bruce, problem with him is that he really has a hard time containing his temper when things start going south and he just goes off on the players, and it's pretty clear at some point they tune him out. He's proven he's savvy enough with systems that he can employ a more conservative defensive system, or go full run-and-gun (which I think he'd prefer, but he doesn't really force players to fit his system).

A good trap guy would probably be McLellan but OH GOD NOT HIM.

Sadly, if he wasn't such a goddamned slimeball, Quenneville would likely be the guy who'd get the most out of his roster, but it's probably a moot point because no way would the Avs pay what he'll eventually be getting once he returns behind an NHL bench.
