Jared Bednar & Co. Discussion Thread

Landeskog will be our 2C because why not? Lets just run every winger there and have a position-less line to confuse the league.
Because Bednar had about 10 million occasions over the years to put a top winger at 2C and always refused to do it.

When he absolutely had no other choice (like with Rants) he wouldn't let him there for more than a few shifts. Like he was afraid it would if he stayed there for too long.

CMac should have never traded Byram. We basically traded our next captain. I definitely won't feel sorry for CMac if he gets fired in a next year or two.

He made a fatal mistake.
Disagree, he should've traded him for Kadri back instead of Mitts. If we had Kadri instead of Brock Nelson, I'm betting that we are playing the Jets tomorrow.

I’m not as savvy as many on the boards - don’t intend to be but my 2 cents: despite a decimated injury-laden team into December and then the big moves and trades, bednar got the team through tough times and into the playoffs and came within 3 boneheaded plays advancing to the second round against a very talented Dallas team. Broken, misfits, very little time to gel and an atrocious power play system; and they did this. I’d give bednar some credit for that sh!t. Would like to see how he does with a more ‘usual’ group that gets time to gel, much less injured and has their captain back. If they can’t make magic after another year - sure; sunset. But I would insist on new special teams as that is one of the most glaring deficiencies of this team. Imho.
The thing is, because of cap constraints and little in the way of valuable farm assets we shouldn't even consider next year as a contention year. More likely a retool. It's the following year where the cap shoots up and Cale is in his last season at 9M that we should be aiming for one last real run with this core.

Will Bednar and MacFarland last that long? We'll see. But that's why I think it makes sense to make the change now and give the new coach a year to settle in.

Honestly no point in conducting this press conference lol.

Fans want blood. Management wants continuity. Nobody happy.
The press should have just asked them what is their favorite ice cream flavor, lol. They don't answer the tough questions.

That said, I had a feeling that Bednar wasn't going anywhere. It just didn't seem like Sakic's style. Plus, what's a coach to do, when his Norris winning best-defenseman-on-the-planet player turns out to lay a turd all series long?

Lots of fans wanted Nichushkin's head at the end of last year's playoff run also. That pretty much 100% died out by the time February rolled around, minus a few humorous cocaine/hooker comments. Probably the same thing will happen here with Bednar.

I have zero faith we will get past the 1st or 2nd round next season with Jared Bednar coaching this team.

I don’t even care what we do this summer or if we lead the f***ing league in points next regular season.

Motivation, confidence, belief… it’s gone.
I have little faith they'll get past the second round next season, because they'd have to beat Dallas to do so.

Put Heiskanen and Robertson on the ice in that first round, and it's a 5 game series.

4 game series, and we would have been beaten so badly Gabe would not have bothered to dress up.

I would argue that yes, it's on Bednar. Two things: motivation. Coach is a major factor. Secondly: TOI.

Rantanen has been creeping up on minutes continuously:
19-20: 18:57
20-21: 19:55
21-22: 20:59
22-23: 22:13
23-24: 22:54
24-25 (before the trade): 22:30

If Rantanen is able to return to better form via better ice-time management, or DeBoer simply being a better coach for him, then yes. It tells you a lot. And you can wonder how many other Avs players Bednar is holding back.

But we will see how it goes.
Again though, you would be attributing a Rantanen resurgence on purely ice time and coaching.

You seem to put zero stock into the player getting motivated again. It’s entirely possible that Rantanen became complacent. When Lehkonen’s dad speaks to his lack of offseason preparation, is that on Bednar also?

I already said it. A coach IS responsible for motivating his players.

Maybe occasionally in game, yes.
But all season, every shift, absolutely not.

And certainly not in the offseason.

Tell me, do you get the same sense of lack of motivation from any other players on the team? Are there other players who seem lazy on the ice or seen a significant downgrade in effort over the past 2 seasons? If so, who? And if not, why is everyone else seemingly motivated but not one player.

What are we even talking about with the offseason training here? Still referencing to some comments by Ismo Lehkonen? Do you even recall what he said?

You could argue that MacKinnon and Makar have not been at their best in the posts seasons, so that could be attributed to too much TOI.

I don't know if we are talking about motivation, or being more fresh. FFS, we don't even know what happens yet. This is all just pure speculation, and we will see how it goes next season (unless he wins the Conn Smythe).

You're back to calling Byram "the next captain" in every other post? Did I time warp to 2021?

This board is going to be awful quiet now that so many folks are going to be less invested because the coach didn't get fired
Because he’s not a C?
