They did the bare minimum. It's ok if fans think it's not enough, but at least they did that. At least they know one area where they failed, instead of putting it all on bad luck and "oh well, stuff happens".Honestly no point in conducting this press conference lol.
Fans want blood. Management wants continuity. Nobody happy.
Well as it stands there are several junior players on the Team Canada roster while Makar, Thomas, Kyrou, Batherson, Bean and Fabbro are at home. Until someone from the 2018 WJC team is added to the roster or an injury is actually announced, wouldn’t read too much into Cale not being thereOnly MacK and Necas at worlds. No Cale. Read into that what you will
It’s also entirely possible that had Rantanen stayed and got his contract, that he’d see no reason to change anything.Like it or not, Rantanen's performance next year will tell a lot about whether or not keeping Bednar is a good move. If DeBoer can get Rantanen back in form, whether it's with managing his minutes better, playing in a different system, motivating him better, or whatever. That would be some indictment to Bednar, and to management for making the misjudgement of moving on from Rantanen instead of making a change behind the bench.
Bennet needed to be gone, that was the bare minimum they had to do. This series was lost on bad powerplay, that's arguably the #1 reason.
He brought the average count of baldness in the coaching staff up. We're well rid.Did Bennett do anything other than the PP? I ask because would hiring another assistant (let's assume, hypothetically, he's really good) realistically change the system at all - ie. the team not being weak bitches?
That, once again, falls on the coach to be able to motivate him then. It’s also entirely possible that had Rantanen stayed and got his contract, that he’d see no reason to change anything.
Is the double trade the kick in the arse he needed to be motivated and show full effort?
Is ice time the reason he was getting lazier here?
There’s simply no way of knowing.
Think of it this way. Should the Canadiens have kept Drouin based on how he played here? I think I they would all tell you no. How Rantanen performs there isn’t necessarily how he would perform here.
To me CMac just lost his privilege to hire his own coach. He made his decision today and "hired" Bednar again.I have zero faith we will get past the 1st or 2nd round next season with Jared Bednar coaching this team.
I don’t even care what we do this summer or if we lead the f***ing league in points next regular season.
Motivation, confidence, belief… it’s gone.

This was the most depressing post season presser since 2008. Dating back to the hopeless pre Matt Duchene era.Honestly no point in conducting this press conference lol.

Good point. They're a package deal now, if they weren't alreadyTo me CMac just lost his privilege to hire his own coach. He made his decision today and "hired" Bednar again.
I don't see why that's on Bednar, there's a very good chance Rants does indeed bounce back. But that's because Rants always has been and always will be a great player. A great player with flaws who hit a bad regular season by his standards (still managed to hit 88 points BTW, and he had 64 in 49 games in Colorado) but a great player nonetheless. If Bednar gets the blame for one bad year of Mikko, does he not get credit for all the good years, including hitting the century mark in back-to-back seasons!?Like it or not, Rantanen's performance next year will tell a lot about whether or not keeping Bednar is a good move. Not that it changes anything, but could be that Sakic is blocking that move.Good point. They're a package deal now, if they weren't already
I want to see another cup. To me that means full scale changes to the coaching staff and scouts and development staff.Honestly no point in conducting this press conference lol.

I would argue that yes, it's on Bednar. Two things: motivation. Coach is a major factor. Secondly: TOI.I don't see why that's on Bednar, there's a very good chance Rants does indeed bounce back.
