I didn't really see this whole "DeBoer outsmarting Bednar" -narrative play out on the ice. I think people just like to latch on to something to blame.

With Dallas injuries we had the much better team, we had the Landeskog boost, we were 7M over the cap, and not only DeBoer made a series out of this (which shouldn't even have happened) but he f***ing won it. Again. What more do people need?

That said, I wouldn't mind trying out a new coach to see if they can get more out of the team. Who knows if it'll end up helping or hurting, but I am sure that the successes of this team over the years should be more attributed to the players being great rather than the coach elevating them.

I think Bednar's lineups and matchups are the reason we lost this series.

I've been impressed with more moves than not by CMac. RyJo and Ellers are the only two moves I hated. But if he does pay the price, I have to hope that Bednar is collateral damage. I would HATE for management turnover that ultimately leaves this core and coach together another year.

The biggest problem with this loss and what @Avs_19 eluded to in his post where there is no half glass full here and that is no effing excuse to be forced to a Game 7 with their injury list. And it wasn't Dallas who forced us to a Game 7, they had the upper hand at every single point in this series, where we had to fight our way back. Any other team in the Western Conference would have beaten Dallas except LA (due to the coach playing 80% of the lineup, 120% of the time).

Just because I want Bednar fired doesn't mean I hate him. He will go down as the best coach ever in Avalanche history quite easily. However, it just isn't working with him. We keep getting eliminated in the first and second rounds through witchcraft reasons. We look great, but the results ain't there, and this is a result-driven league. I wish him all the best, along with Bennett and Pratt, but we are wasting valuable years with two of the top 5 players in the league and can barely win in the playoffs. Something doesn't make sense.

Yeah, agreed. I don’t get the stat hounds at all. They say DeBoer has no strategy. Maybe not but three games where the other team scored late to tie and win games tells me that JB and the boys needed to be able to score a lot. And his insistence on stapling Necas to Mack was a wasted opportunity to increase offensive production. So yes, the boys played like shit but it isn’t all on them either.

At some point you've just gotta look at the results. Lost to him in a damn-near reverse sweep. Lost to him with an injury advantage. Lost to him with a home ice advantage. You can break down the X's and O's or the adjustments all you want, but DeBoer simply has his number. Doesn't matter the circumstances.

In the end, one coach who was severely undermanned got his team to overachieve and another with a pretty healthy group found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

At this point, i dont care what advanced stats say, DeBoer got his team to grind out a win. Even if you say that DeBoer primed the refs to make calls favorable to the stars, why didnt Bednar do it?

I appreciate Bednar’s work as a coach and think he deserves all the praise and credit for what he’s done for the team, but it’s time to go. And if management thinks he deserves another chance, his assistant coaches sure as f*** do not. Im tired of seeing an anemic powerplay and passive penalty kill.

I think Bednar should go (always thought he was an above average coach - but I’ve never seen him as “amazing”).

However I also am keeping this real - the oddsmakers had both Colorado/Dallas on top of the boards. This wasn’t your run of the mill first round series where the good team pounds the bad team into oblivion. These might very well have been the two best teams in the West.

Thank you for everything you've done Bedsy. You came in at the darkest times, established a team culture and identity that were the envy of other teams. You will go down as one of if not the greatest Avs coaches in history. Unfortunately it's a cut throat league and coaches rarely get this much tenure on one team. He deserves all the credit in the world.

The entire staff needs to be replaced. It's non negotiable at this point. Just had to be done as much as it'll hurt.

Two truisms about coaching. It’s a production based biz and every coach knows when they get hired that they’ll eventually end their tenure whether by resigning or being fired.

All of this talk and hype around David Carle every year, why not for the Avs? I don’t necessarily believe in needing a vet coach for a vet team. Bednar came in when the core was very young and grew with them but I think a young innovative coach could fit in this situation if the team buys in.

I would hate going the dinosaur retread route purely based on experience. Torts for example would be a disaster waiting to happen. Laviolette wouldn’t be too much different after the toxicity we just saw in NY.

If we look at the Nuggets as an example, one of the main reasons Malone is gone is due to relationships and the “fear culture.” They replaced him on an interim basis with Adelman, who is an up and coming and highly thought of coach. He was already on the staff and may not even be retained but that’s who Kroenke put in place to lead his veteran team.

Lmao. Look. I want someone who is going to be an asshole to 29 and 8 and get them to play and get out of their own heads.

With Carle, I've seen waaaaaaay too much evidence of this guy believing in turtling when his team gets leads in college hockey to believe he will not work in the NHL.

The Avs IMO need an asshole. They need swagger back. Kadri had that in spades and he is gone. The team needs it back and if it isn't a player, it should be the coach.

We need somebody ready to win in tough situations and who’s willing to have the awkward conversations with some of our star players.

Q knows how to win with mediocrity at 2C which we’ve desperately needed for 3 years now. He would not be afraid to play Necas and Mack on different lines like they should be. He’s really the only lever left to pull to try to get something before the inevitable rebuild

Bednar will do well with a young team like Anaheim who needs to take the next step

I have some real hope after the bold moves Josh made with the Nuggets that he’ll be prepared to be bold with the Avs as well
