Roy got a four year deal with an option for a fifth.

There were rumors he was willing to leave Quebec for the Avs in 2009 for $2M x 4 but the team turned it down. Similar rumors that he got in the $2M per range when he signed on as Head Coach/VP in 2013.

I think Roy got more per season because his salary wasn't guaranteed like other coaches. Maybe someone can back me up.

I don't know if that's why he got the salary he got, but it's true his salary wasn't guaranteed. If either side decided to part ways he wouldn't have been paid for the remaining years. That's why I think he got a 4 year term instead of the typical 3 year deal for a rookie head coach.

I think a big part of why he got paid what he did was he agreed to help get butts back in the seats at the Pepsi Center, and he did a lot of off ice work in his VP role. Especially his first year. He basically never stopped working for the team.

Well, until he did...

Congrats to Bednar. Just please don't follow your predecessors. Let's remember what happened to Sacco and Roy after they were nominated and in Roy's case won the Adams.
Like your post and seriously, there is a huge list of Adam's winners who suck. But I just have feeling that Bednar got the right team at the right time. I actually expect several players to have lower numbers next seasons but I also expect a big FA signing and progression from the D. Not sure if that puts us in the playoffs next season but I hope and expect that it makes us tougher to play against.

Actually I think if you look at runners up, it's a much better list. Hes probably not going to win it lol.

I know he has a rep for hating physicality but I just think that's a misnomer. If he hated it so much he wouldn't have gone All-Beef on the second pairing the other night against Toronto, which I thought was a great move since it gave the Sams softer matchups and therefore more room to maneuver. I think it also helps putting another stay-at-home guy with 42 since you know he loves to jump into the play (Lindgren obviously liked the newfound freedom, he went charging into the attacking zone a few times himself).

I kinda love the fact that he has a pretty structured system for the forwards and with the defense he's all "Yeah just do whatever"

I think as others have said, he doesn't hate physicality, or hitting. He hates players that leave their coverage to go out of their way to lay risky hits. If there's a hit to be had and it doesn't take you out of position, Bednar is fine with it. If you go around throwing hits and forgetting there is a structure you'll quickly find his ire.

I think my beef is not that Bednar won't allow physicality, it's that he only allows it on his terms and those policies don't seem really clear.

Gabe Landeskog and Nathan MacKinnon are given the green light to take any liberties they want now. Bednar has helped Nate control his anger to the best of his abilities and sometimes, shit just explodes in hockey. I'd rather have the passion than not.

Same goes for Manson on D. He's earned the ability to play his game when he sees the opportunity.

But historically throughout the NHL, bottom six forwards and bottom 3 dmen typically play with a lot more jam than we do. So when we bring in a guy who plays those types of games, they either stop doing it because it's not how they ever wanted to play or they stop doing it because they are told to. I suspect they are being coached away from it.

There's just entirely too many players that have come to the Avs, made a hit or two, took a penalty and that was the end of it with Jared. He doesn't coach players through using physicality to their advantage, he just tells them to avoid it and keep the pace higher. You've got to be incredibly deep to have a 3rd and 4th line capable of playing the game the same way MacKinnon and Makar do.

100% this.
