Picks like that should be called interference. Feels like they are during regulation. But in OT it seems more widely accepted?

Regardless, it's impressive that his picks were as effective as they were in such quick succession.

I don't like it, but what rule is he breaking if he's just purposefully gliding at his teammate without changing direction? Seems like a valid strategy until they change the rule

Those aren't penalties. We asked the fans and they unanimously said they were fine with the non-call because it's not a penalty.

- Gary Bettman

He's very clearly positioning himself to impede the defender's progress, that's interference.
I would've called the 2nd one because he did turn. But overall, gliding to an area and your teammate skating close to you seems like its within the rules.

I don't think these make it exactly clear, but some relevant sections of the rulebook:
A player is allowed the ice he is standing on(body position) and is not required to move in orderto let an opponent proceed. A player may “block” thepath of an opponent provided he is in front of hisopponent and moving in the same direction. Movinglaterally and without establishing body position, thenmaking contact with the non-puck carrier is notpermitted and will be penalized as interference. Aplayer is always entitled to use his body position tolengthen an opponent’s path to the puck, providedhis stick is not utilized (to make himself “bigger” andtherefore considerably lengthening the distance hisopponent must travel to get where he is going); hisfree hand is not used and he does not takeadvantage of his body position to deliver anotherwise illegal check.

A playerdelivering a “pick” is one who moves into anopponent’s path without initially having body position, thereby taking him out of the play. When this is done,an interference penalty shall be assessed.

Yeah, the first one seems okay, but there are at least two cases that were clear cut intereference and impossible to overlook. Either the refs failed completely, or they were following a guideline by the NHL, in which case both the NHL and the refs failed.

The refs are just "managing the game" as they always do, this time to give the Sharks every opportunity to win.

As much as I'd love to point and laugh at the Rangers, it mostly just makes me disgusted at how fixed these games can be. Doesn't get much more obvious than this.

What the hell is even that??

Subtle ones are whatever, but this guy set three within seconds. They've penalized for less in the playoffs.

It is the inconsistency. Four minutes into the first period, all are getting whistled.

Hyman gets called for picks each time he does it. I would expect every player to be held to the same standard.

Joke reffing in this league

Those picks cost me. Call the penalty and NYR get the ot powerplay and win. Had two big parlays blow up thanks to this upset. Blegh did a spit take with my coffee when I was checking the scores this morning. Then I saw why they lost.
