I don't think it was a disallowed goal. The controversy came when the fat but effective Russian goalie deliberately knocked the net off the moorings in the final seconds, which should have been a penalty shot. Ref missed the call, Canada never came close again.

Of course, there's no guarantee Canada scores on the penalty shot. And the real reason Canada lost the tournament was because they blew leads of 2-0 and 3-1, and Pascal LeClaire pulled off a monumental choke job.

actually the puck was going into the net when the play was called because the net was off its moorings with seconds left. that puck would have gone in hence why all 6 canadian playrs on the ice went ballistic and half of them got game misconducts.

it was a horrible call that probably cost canada any chance of winning the game, the comparison is this

Canada COULD have scored on that penalty shot, tying a gold medal game....

Russia COULD have gained momentum from the goal tonight...

Coulda, woulda, shoulda...its over, they were the 2002 champs after controversy, were the 2006 champs after controversy

where is old round face anyway?

anyways yah, i was wrong, although there no goal on the play, the ref blew an important call in an important game, a closer game none the less.

and the same thing could be said for russia losing this tournament, a monumental chokejob from the start.

Boring? Hardly, unless you hate hitting and relentless puck pursuit. And talentless? I think not. They're were about a dozen NHL first-rounders on that team. They bought into a game plan that stressed unselfish team play ahead of individual play and that's why they won.

And I disagree that this was a good Russian team. Obviously, there was a lot of talent on it, but I said it after their 8-1 drubbing and I'll say it again. Their defence was horrible. The Canadians exposed that in the exhibition and again tonight.

switch the goalies and it;s 10-0 Russia... Talentless and borring hockey, you have read right the first time. I'd be in the same mood as your are if Russia had won, but look at this objectively. This team looked like a 2001 NJ Devils........ Great goaltending, great D, great system... fun to watch, no.

Haha who would expect a Russian fan to think the team was exciting, heck I thought they were exciting, like the explosive hits that FORWARDS were delivering to Malkin, man that first period had me jumping around like a little kid

I thoroughly enjoyed the game and I wasnt payin close attention to Russia... sidenote Im a Nashville Predators fan, when I watch them play other teams, I rarely find the other team exciting, it's not normal to find your opposition exciting! :dunno:

The last word I'd use to describe an aggressive fore-checking game would be boring.

Pouliot  not.

I dont like him. I think I may have told him where to go at a bar one night, but that also could have been another player whos head barely fits through the door, who knows.

Id tell my embarassing Brampton Battalion story, but I dont want to on a message board! haha

sidenote, anyone know if this game is being replayed anytime soon

It was a borring Canadian team, and it was a borring game. Last year's Canada Team was spectacular; all of it. I remember being shook only at watching Phaneufs eyes while on the bench! The guy was scary! Same with offense... But this year.. man I was pissed. Not at the Canadian team, bu at the game. This is supposed to be the most exciting hockey game of the year (all leagues mixed up), and you get this.... lousy russian goaltending, lousy along the boards game, not a single hot goal, nothing from Malkin, poor refereeing... No highlights what so ever...

Well if you're a fan, a couple of good hits.. wuuuu...

Talentless my ***. New Jersey My ***. and btw, Avalanche won the cup in 2001. New Jersey devils? No way man, this team played like a Calgary Flames type of team, that layed out hits, and agressive forechecking. Yes we did play an defensive style. But it wasnt boring at all. Every game Canada played was exciting. They were not as skilled as Russia, but for sure Canada had their skilled players.

glad we beat them cocky russians.

btw, you better get use to it. Canada will ice together a stronger team next year. so yea. :jump: :jump: :jump:
