I don’t get why Canadian broadcasting is so much better than American. It’s aeriously like living in Switzerland vs the Central African Republic.

Well I assume Americans put their best guys in the sports they care about. John Gruden might have been involved in hockey if he was Canadian.

Nah because most American tv analysts in football and basketball are just as awful. Mike Milbury is a symptom of the wide disease in American tv.

Americans have a love for all things former player/coach when it comes to analysts don't they

They just like loud mouth guys who emphasize yelling over analysis. I’ll never forget watching my European ex who watched hockey with me on vacation in both the states and Canada saying “wow the Canadians actually talk about the game.”

As a streamsniper i liked pierre mcguire the most on TSN. Hes a dorky hockey-geek that you just like. Bad call letting him go.

I remember being very annoyed with how dejected he was after Canada blew that one medal game to the Russians. (edit: referring to Duthie)

I really didn't like Pierre McGuire on the World Junior broadcasts. Way too hyper for my taste, the pro-Canada bias was too evident, and I felt like he talked down to his audience. He's an incredibly knowledgeable guy, which I didn't feel came through very well (or at all) when he was calling World Junior games.

You either love him or hate him. Like it or not though he's has some of the best soundbites from the WJC.

Sometimes his knowledge boarders on creepy.

I get what you're saying about Pierre. I can see why he would be a bit much for some.

Personally, I love the guy. His passion is so obvious and he has so much knowledge to back it up. I also don't think he had a huge pro-Canada bias but rather he just always covered team Canada because he worked for TSN. I remember him hyping up Swedes, Americans, Russians, etc. and citing there club teams in Europe from back when they were kids. It's just Pierre being Pierre.

I used to listen to Pierre when he called in to Ottawa Team1200 back when I commuted to work. To say he came across as hugely knowledgeable about the NHL, prospects, CHL, NCAA, etc, etc. is an extreme understatement. The guy knew (knows) his s***, and was able to articulate it professionally and clearly. When he did the World Juniors, he was like a completely different person. Still knowledgeable, but overly enthusiastic and came across as a pitchman for the tournament and the players instead of an analyst. I respect the guy, don't get me wrong, but I just didn't like him in that role. I like Ferraro much better.

As great as Duthie, Bob, Ray, and Gord are, I am still left missing Pierre McGuire every WJC. I know he is widely hated on these board, and his takes were often outlandish, to say the least.. But, he was fantastic for television. And drinking games.

Indeed, Regis was the man. Funny is funny even if it isn't intentional, and his info was often interesting. Ferraro does a good job though.

Duthie is indeed a consistently competent host. Moves things along well and adds some original thoughts sometimes.

Our sweet and lovely James must really be feeling it. Tessa Bonhomme is working with Bobby Mac for the bronze medal game. The Duthenator should be back for the gold medal game.
