Does Fowler really have higher upside than Dobes? I’ve been wilfully ignorant of Fowler. Haven’t watched any tape.

I guess Fowler’s the better technician while Dobes might have better physical tools?

Fowler is a really really good prospect. His floor is higher than Dobes, but Dobes has the higher upside. We will see if Dobes can reach that upside

i badly struggle with goalies, I like how compact he is in his movements, I worried that Dobes over aggressiveness would get exposed in the NHL. But when you look at Dobes's #'s in the NCAA and the team in had in front of him vs Fowler who likely has had the best D in the entire NCAA in front of him (certainly last year as BC lead the nation in shot blocks).

I remember when we drafted Fucale and the talk was is he this good or did it have to do with being on on the best Q teams in some time so I do wonder about Fowler but all the guy does is win so hard to find fault with that.

For my money I think Volokhin could be the guy, but I'm not as sure now as he was terrible in his VHL debut (worst game I ever saw from him) and after that in the few times I saw him (he wasn't getting many games) he looked shaky to me but now that he's getting more consistent TOI, he's looked much better.

Great to watch. I thought that a few times he didn't follow the play adequately, yet his athleticism made him stop the puck.

Monty is a solid goaltender, but I personnaly don't think he'll be with us for 10 more years
This isn't a knock on Monty but I few him more like a Huet than Theodore in the sense I think Monty is a transitional goalie who will be the number 1 untill one of our younger goalies are ready. After all, we had Huet when Halak and Price were developing and then moved Huet at the last chance to.

I 100% agree with everything said there

Again, Monty is solid and all, but he's a bit older, and while talented, he doesn't have the type of talent to be the true heir to Carey Price
Fowler might have just that

Considering the trend of tandems becoming more commonplace, Monty isn't necessarily going anywhere if Dobes turns out to be a starting goalie.

What's Montembeault?

Chopped liver?

A transitional goalie for the team. He does what is needed to be done but he's never felt like our guy after Price.

I’ve never read that Dobes’ upside is higher. He’s obviously bigger but Fowler is much better technically. Time will tell who’s better but I’m betting on Fowler.

Technique is the thing that is most easily improved. Dobes being that size and that athletic, with the improvements hes made since being drafted puts the ceiling higher than Fowler who doesn't have that height and his athleticism isn't quite at the level of Dobes.

For Fowler as long as his hockey sense continues to play at each level he goes to, then you've got a safer bet to be a starting goalie and a long term fixture.

I've been very high on Fowler for awhile, in his draft minus one, he's a really good one. We are lucky to have both.

Monty is the #1 unless he has a few bad games and Dobes doesn't. Then, if they are in playoff contention, they will ;likely do whatever they think gives them the best chance.
I never said Monty wasn't the number 1. I was just saying that Monty could use a rest as he has been playing a lot. I am not saying Dobes is going to take his net, but if we see him against Vancouver, it is more of a workload thing for Monty. That's all.

Do you have to read it somewhere or can you discern it from watching them play?
Dobes has a substantial physical edge over Fowler in just about every category you'd care to look at.
Fowler has better technique and perhaps reads the game better but I'm not even sure about that.
Technique is the one area Dobes has made the greatest strides in since his debut in Laval.

It's the physical side of the game that gives Dobes the higher upside.
Could Fowler maintain the composure Dobes did after getting run twice would he have even survived the contact?

Fowler is better than Augustine, glad that decision was taken out of their hands and they only had Fowler on the board.

I prefer Fowler too, but Augustine isn't a bad prospect.

I see that exchange as complimentary of Billy Ryan rather than a knock on Riendeau.

Riendeau has been pretty decent at finding goalies without using much capital.

Lindgren, Primeau, Dobes, Volokhin and Hughes is not a bad haul.

Miles better than we did between the Price pick and his arrival.

Riendeau has been great, I'm just glad they got Fowler over Augustine.

I can see Dobes getting 6 more NHL starts until the FN break, and then he goes back to the AHL. Laval Plays 5 games between Feb 10 to Feb 21, so he can play around 3 or even 4 of those games during the break before coming back. The Habs only have 3 back-to-backs for the rest of the schedule.
