Those were 2 MAJOR LEAGUE Bumps he took man.. Holy hell
I thought for sure after the 2nd one the fairy tail was over for a bit.. but he seems pretty OK afterwards
What a tough kid

Real exciting times right now

I dont know if his 'swagger/attitude' hurt or helped him in Europe or NCAA or wtv
But that type of demeanor and confidence he's showing off will DEFInitely help him in the NHL to get his bearings set, especially in a city like MTL where the Goalies become Saints, Deities

Swagger and style to do it in Montreal.

Monty doesn't get it. Same pads as he wore last year. Like bro, that's back up mentality.

Dobes posture reminds me of of Pekka Rinne.
The way he stopped Drouin amd Rantanen reminds me of Carey Price.
Thats a good comparable, I was getting prime Dubnyk vibes, he's big, covers a lot of the net and is very sound technically.

Very impressed so far. He got probably the hardest assignment a rookie goalie could get to start his career and he was essentially flawless.

😆

Dobes: what went wrong for you in Montreal?

Monty: idk, you tell me. I thought it was going really well until they dumped me.

Dobes: don't you think it has to do with you being so beta?

Monty, confused: what do you mean?

Dobes: come on bro, didn't even change your pads between seasons? BRB, gonna steal your girl just like I stole your job.

Monty, sad: ... Please be good to her.

I’m sure there’ll be tough spots but it’s clear he’s has tons of raw upside. Does seem a little more calm in his net than last year.

The most impressive part of the night was his recovery after biting on Rantanen’s shootout attempt. Popping back up that fast, with that wide of base, with very little change up top, as he keeps tracking laterally, and stays square… damn. Don’t think Rantanen expected it - I know I didn’t. You’re not going to find many big goalies that can do it that quickly/smoothly at 23.

Yeah, I love that shootout move for Goalies because the shooter is expecting the G to just flop and be on his stomach and you step around and then just easy goal

But if you face a good one, they bite just to humor you, then re-adjust and track
And it's great because if a player is gonna try to score like that in the shootout he's turning the net from being this big

To being this big lol

And if the goalie follows you laterally which he DID, Dobes is just like 'oook, where you shooting bud..?' Lol

If they keep crashing into him, he better use the Billy Smith special.

Very good observation, he has that come at me bro look to him. An old dude like me shouldn't even use that because it sounds wrong lol.

That's what impressed me too. He is insanely fast for a guy his size at getting up off his knees. Very impressed with him so far. Hopefully he can keep it up.

Only 2 games, but dude looks legit. Does he get the net against Vancouver?

No, he is not even in the conversation of a job share at this point. Monty will continue to get the majority of the starts and Dobes won't start consecutive games unless Monty is hurt or goes on a really bad run. Goaltending is 90% psychological and Marty is no fool and won't start messing with Monty's mind after such a minuscule sample.

Well, if he does get the start, it's probably to give Monty a bit of a rest. I agree with you.

Imagine if we had him at the beginning of the season instead of Primeau

Him and Fowler will be a solid duo for years to come (hopefully)

If he we had him here from the beginning of the season, I think we’d have 4-8 more points (a combination of points that we lost playing Primeau and a fatigued Monty) and would be in a playoff spot right now.
