Safe to say Sanderson will be the best, and the only guy who will try to make the case for it is Stutzle, so eyyyyy.
I don't disagree.

I also don't see the point of making other guys sound worse or slagging them, to make that point.

That draft could be an all-timer.

If I recall, Anaheim wanted Sanderson. Ottawa had Sanderson at #4 on their board. Lots of armchair GMs laughed and said the Sens could have traded back and still gotten him (it never works that way, hence GMs almost never trading back that high).

There is usually a bias against late risers from fans. They get attached to names they have heard all year. With that said, Stutzle was a riser as well and didn't get the same level of scrutiny. Within the scouting community, Sanderson had put himself in the conversation in February of his draft year at the five nations tournament, but you have to keep in mind that even prior to that he wouldn't have been out of line in the 10-15 type range.

I'm not saying that there weren't people with an educated take who watched significant amounts of both Drysdale and Sanderson who preferred Drysdale, but most of the outcry was from people who simply became attached to one over the other because they were ranked higher for longer.

That was a strong draft at the time, but a few of the players from the top 10 are having growing pains.

Yeah, most of us haven't scouted all the players, so at best we have the players we like, those we don't and the players we don't know. I knew nothing about Sanderson at the time. I just knew @BondraTime liked him a lot, and that's usually good enough for me!

Because that was an important draft for us, I paid more attention than usual to a few players, and for example I already knew that I liked Stutzle better than Byfield. I also really liked Rossi, Drysdale and Peterka. But that was about all I knew. And that's why I don't usually have super strong opinions about the draft, except of course in hindsight. :p

I love Jake but can we say we have seen offensive pure skill with him? He is great in D (except for the last game) but offensively it's hard to project what he can offer in the future.

I think he has the ability to be a top offensive d-man but he uses a lot of mental bandwidth on D. Not easy to be full tilt both ways.

I also think he is naturally a risk averse player, likes playing perfect hockey. Lidstrom mindset is right.

But I'd love for him to start taking more risks, add a little Karlsson mindset. With his skating, hands, and IQ he could be even more of a gamebreaker.

Not sure Sanderson can hit that ppg level. He just doesn’t have the hands.

But in the defensive side not much better

He's really just starting to control the play offensively and driving offense. He hasn't really done that much before this season. Travis Green seems like he wants Sanderson to be a big part of the offense, so I think we have to wait to see how Jake takes the opportunity, he's looked amazing offensively at times already this season. He's only going to get more comfortable and confident with taking risks. I don't think he has any physical limitations holding him back from being an elite offensive threat, actually I think he's built exactly for it.

He has a very different development path than most offensive dmen though, most guys are more like Makar or Hughes where they're thinking offense first and have to learn that defensive side. Sanderson looks like he'll be the opposite.

Jake Sanderson and -4 (tied for worst on the team) is confusing to look at. Until you remember Travis hamonic.
Hate to criticize TH while he’s playing ok so far but Sandy needs his zub back.

He is great but still learning, now that they are expecting to win some warts are showing.
It takes most guys a few years to dominate defensively.
yes he is super duper cool and good so don't freak out.

'zactly, sena. Sanderson is hype-worthy, but this forum bit so hard on Sandy's-the-man and Chabot's-shit. Shiny object syndrome. You're all so basic. (not you, sena)

I love Jake....but I am starting to get annoyed when he carries the puck up the ice, only to drop the puck way behind him...reminds of when Chabby did it a few years back on practically every power play.....drives me crazy.

That's coaching, not skills related though. That particular thing seems to be just part of our offensive zone entry.

If you watch other teams do that as well -- it's to stack 4-5 on the line to prevent the opposing D from knowing exactly where the puck is going.

Every team is doing this.

Sanderson offensive game still needs to grow. Needs to start making things happen at even strength. Zub back will probably help

That's a system driven decision though, it doesn't matter who the D is on the PP, they'll be doing that because that's the setup for the entry the PP coach designed, and almost every team does it, albeit to varying degrees.

Needs to pick up the even strength production, that's been very poor thus far

He's a rock defensively, and that will only improve once we get Hamonic off his side.

Having Zub on his side will allow Sanderson more freedom and time to produce. He should get a lot of assists, but I would like him to shoot more. He is defence first, offence second, and the exact type we need as #1D on this team. I can see him producing 50+ points every year.

It's wild to think he's only gotten 2 full games and 4 shifts (out of 38) in a third game with Zub this year. We really need Zub back.

Sanderson pairing went from being an unfair advantage to trash.

Why aren't they trying JBD up there?

Or there's a D who just passed through waivers and apparently his team would love to give him away for free. Maybe even give us something for him since no one in the league wants him.

8 games and a +5 and some of the best advanced stats on the team. Has experience with both sides as well as experience playing in the top 4. Only 900k and moves the puck well.

Feel like we could benefit from a depth player like that. Especially because of the current situation.

He’s the one who needs to be the defensive side of the pairing.

He doesn’t have much offensively. He’s a great skater. But like passing shooting puck control. Just average.

Amazing defensively. Let him focus on that. We can’t be pushing for a goal and he’s just making these conservative play.
