What contract do you think Evans gets as a UFA this July. Interested in hearing from non Habs fans.

Monahan just got 5x $5.5M and all GM's already knew the cap would be $92M for next year. Evans can't get that and I believe most agree. What are the predictions on his next contract and would your team want to sign him as a UFA.

I think about $12.5 million total divided up over anywhere from 3-5 years.

He will be 29 to start next season.

$2.5 AAV x 5 for his 29 thru 33 aged seasons.

$3.135 AAV x 4 for his 29 thru 32 aged seasons.

$4.167 AAV x 3 for his 29 thru 31 aged seasons.

I mean $2.5 seems like a team friendly number but that cap hit will stick for a while and he’s probably not gonna shoot 23% again.

$4 million seems high but you get his prime years and then he’s off the books. We’ve seen worse players get “4” short term on rebuilding teams to guide development and then fall off the ledger when the bill for young talent comes due.

If I’m Evans and his agent - this is really my one chance to cash in. I’d say the total contract is more important than how the AAV breaks down - though obviously that will be important from the team side.

Depending on term, im gonna guess somewhere in the 2.5 - 3.5 million range

I think Evans and his agent are after more AAV than that and will go to UFA to find out. Habs would easily extend him in the $2.5M - $3.5M AAV range for any term. I think he is after $4M+ and when you look at the shortage of 3C's in the NHL, he might get it.

...why would you give him 6 years??...he'll turn 29 at the end of the season and has been a banger all his career...he'll be even more cooked than Gallagher by year 5 at the most...4 year max, imo...

Gallagher's skating was the real reason why he fell off a cliff in his 30+ years. He's getting smothered with the time/space area. Danault really sheltered him and the massive drop happened after Danault walked.

Evans is a late bloomer. He is one of those types that has gradually improved year/year. Evans's skating and compete level is very strong. 6 years would be from age 29-34. I'd be open to that if the AAV was $3.25M. I personally don't believe he will decline like Gallagher. I think Evans is like a C Coyle type.

more like 3M-4M, 3M for long term contract, 4M for a shorter term

i'll predict something like 3.5M for 6 years

6x $3.5M is something I can see us open to. Ideally, we prefer 3 years IMO. The AAV in whatever term het gets, has to make sense.

I do wonder if we use deferred salary in Evan's case. Maybe we do 6 years at $3M with $6M in payments when he is 40+
