Good deal but I guess I’m one of the few that doesn’t get excited over a 29 year old fourth liner who’s having a career year.

Reminds me of the time people got all giddy with excitement when Armia was re-signed .

I’ll tell you what, if they turned down a first rounder just to keep him i will be furious

2,85m for our best pker with the cap going up to 100m is great value. It was reported we asked a 2nd for Evans, not a first. We will never know anyway.

On the one hand, ideally, you trade him in a package for a 1st and then you re-sign him in the summer.

But first of all getting the 1st and getting him back in the summer weren't necessarily options.

Second, hard to be sellers when we're 1 point out if a playoff spot and the pkayers have been going through many years of losing. Good to give them a chance to play for the pkayoffs and possibly in the playoffs. Players like Suzuki and in their primes. NHL players now overwhelmingly decline at age 32. It's a short window.
No but even if we only get a 2nd in 2027... You still can resign him July 1st, and he can still keep his condo or whatever. The reasoning behind this signature looks immature. I spent the majority of my college years moving everywhere for internships, I don't get the "I don't want to leave part". It's really brushing me the wrong way like we're dealing with big baby Crosby eh.

I'm over the moon for the signing because you need players like Evans to win the cup. Having a strong PK can go a long way in deciding if a team will have a good playoffs or not.

Our PK was a huge part of why we reached the cup finals a few years ago.

Ok, but a few differemces.

1. Jake is a good two way center. Those don't grow on trees. And he's very versatile. He can play anywhere in the lineup in any situation.

2. The cap hit is lower than Armia's, plus the cap is going up. So it will be an even lower percentage of the cap than Armia's cap hit.

Also, Armia's deal hasn't turned out that badly. He may not even be overpaid for what he's brought this year.
