When it comes to term and big bucks, it had better be about the points. This is a decent player that lacks physicality and grit - is 28 years old already, and certainly not worth locking up until he turns 33 or 34.

I wouldn't sign him to a day over two years or a penny more than $3M (per year).

His term is a year long and the money is perfectly adequate for a guy that shoulders so much defensive responsibilities. Without him, Suzuki would be so worn down. There's more to hockey than points. We need him with so many young Cs coming up, and he would get his money and term easily on the open market. You lose him, and you will be lamenting the black hole we will have at the C position for many years to come.

Evans brings nothing Beck can't handle.
 
Evans is probably one of the toughest decisions Hugo have to make since they are here.

In one side, we have no one who can replace him in the short term and we already know he fits well in the system and in the lockeroom

In the other side, it’s probably time to cash in he best season and year 4-5 could be risky all though 4 m in 4-5 will probably be what 2m
Is worth today and he won’t be a problem to move.

I suspect if they are still talking it will go pretty close to the deadline unless a team overpays or Evans decides he wants to end the uncertainty and stay.

It's tough because he's been a good, useful player, but then he put up good numbers at the beginning of the year. Evans has cooled off, but he probably still wants to be paid for the stats he put up earlier. It's not that big a deal to overpay a bit, the cap is going up, he's young enough that his game probably won't crater for 3-4 years, and he can play somewhere even if they end up with 9-10 more effective players. It's also not the end of the world if they trade him for a lesser offer. It's unlikely that Evans will ever sustain the production he had to start the year.
 
I think Evans is massively overrated on this board. He has played ONE full season in his career so far, and all this talk about great numbers this season, and they aren't yet even career highs for him. With that said, I do like Evans, but I think a long-term deal is going to be a mistake.
