Player Discussion Jake Evans (Part II)

I think the biggest weakness in our lineup is the 2nd line. Newhook needs to go down a slot and Dach may never be a 2c. 2nd biggest weakness is Matheson as a 1st pair D amd also RD. I'd solve those two before worrying about bottom six sandpaper.

I already like Heineman and Anderson. Plus Armia has size. Only small player is Gally, who plays hard. Ideally though, when Newhook goes to the bottom six, we move Gally

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - Dach - Newhook/Demidov[25-26]
Heineman - Evan's - Armia
Anderson - Dvo/Beck[25-26] - Gally/Newhook[25-26]

Hutson - Matheson/Reinbacher[25-26?]
Guhle - Carrier
Xhekaj - Savard/Mailloux[25-26?]

Unless they can get better, the biggest weaknesses I see in this lineup are Laine, Dach, and Matheson.
I like your line-up except the 2nd line. Habs could not go with that down the road, or home. Habs needs absolutely a good vet 2nd center, by all means. Plz don't give Dach to Demidov as his center. Demidov demands better.

Evans could stay or go, depends on the lenght of the contract and the good price. If he is traded, it's sucks to start again forming a center for pk and defense checking but it's something that could be learned by 80% of good centers with some IQ. It would take one or two years to get the same quality/results of actual Evans with Beck or another. But not mission impossible.

Yeah with the cap going up it seems the Monahan 5 year 5.5M contract would have been great as a stop gap 2c, even if he deteriorates in the last 2 years.

Hopefully Hughes can find another stop gap - for Hage, Dach, or a big trade.

I think Dach will be fine. He's looked good for a while and been producing at a decent rate. Add in a guy like Demidov and I think he'll put up a lot more points.

After all Monahan wasn't that bad at all compared to Dach and Laine. We had a good player and we let him go for a top pick. Habd should not mess-up next time they go for a player/big contact. reclamation projects are for fools.

1. I love the move trading Monahan for a 1st and then moving up in the draft to get Hage. But we could have still signed Monahan in the summer when he hit the open market. We could have had Monahan and Hage.

2. Vegas and Florida had many reclamation projects to help win the cup: Forsling, Bennett, Reinhart, OEL, Eichel, any of the misfits: Karlsson, Marchessault, McNabb, etc..

I really hope Laine can shine with Demidov.

The proof will be in the pudding and it will be time for him to put up or shut up.

I don't know what to think of Laine. I'd have never taken him without us taking something back. Big salary and a real injury history.

We haven't seen the best of him yet. I'm inclined to wait until next season but as far as I'm concerned we're playing with house money. We gave up nothing and his contract is up soon. If he does something it'd be great but if not, I won't lose any sleep.

Maybe being healthy and playing with Demidov and a healthy Dach might do something for him. We'll see.

We are rebuilding, it's stupid to keep good UFAs.
It's a matter of timing. Monahan have been good to help/train younger players. But a team like Habs needs to draft early Monahan bring 1rts drafts. He brings Hage. This is a thread about Evans so my position is to trade him, suck a while with his replacement for a year or 2 and keep our $$$ for 26 or 27. It's sad to lose one of the very few thing that worked this year ; the pk. But having Evans in 2028 at the age of 32 at 4m? I prefer the late first in 2028.

Giving long term contracts to glass bodies like Monahan is a fool's game, Habs have enough glass bodies. They played the Monahan situation perfectly. They only got him cheap because he was a glass body and they moved him before he got hurt again. And as expected he did.

No thanks.

Monahan's age and injury history ruled him out for an extension in Montreal.

We wouldn't have Demidov right now if we kept him.

I was advocating for trading Monahan at the TDL and then re-signing him in the summer. So we get Hage, Demidov, and Monahan.

Same thing I'd do with Evan's and possibly Armia, if we can move Gally. Need a spot for Beck in the bottom six. He's ready. Maybe if we get a 2c, Dachtakes Armia's spot on the bottom six:

Newhook - Dach - Anderson
Heineman - Beck/Evan's - Gally/Armia/Beck

I understand but I was talking strictly hockey when Monahan is able to play. Habs are missing some talent at 2nd C. And Dach had his part of injuries too.
