Dach is understandable, but he shouldnt be playing 2C with a premiere player if not 100%. Also, he and the org stated he was ready to go by the end of last season, so it's a bit of a weak excuse, and the comparison with Caufield, who had less recovery time, is pretty lame. While Caufield had goal scoring issues to start the season, he was still a playmaking beast and was putting in effort. Dach cant even improve his faceoff ability? The dude is the minus leader in the entire league and looks disinterested out there most times.

It's a delicate balance between development and accountability.

Dach is identified a key peice that needs to pan out for this current core to turn into something great. He is also handpicked by the current regime so all signs point towards him getting alot of investment.

His leash will get shorter next year. If he shows no tangible improvements at that point, it's probably best for both the Habs and dach to get a fresh start and look at other ways to fill that critical hole.

Dach isnt integral to our rebuild with Beck, Hage and Kapanen in the system. We need to stop catering to players ahead of the team at this point.

No. Newhook will center the 3rd line between Gallagher and Anderson, and Beck will center the 4th line between Armia and Heineman. Habs will re-sign Armia for another two years. Evans is going UFA and will earn big bucks.

Fans of course will not like that, but that's the way to go.
Personally I like Evans way more than I do Newhook

For now, yes, I like Evans more than Newhook at C. But Newhook is 5 years younger. At 23, Evans was nowhere near where Newhook is as a player. Newhook's timeline fits our window, not Evans.

Easy peasy decision.

Dach is definitely identified as a critical peice, or at least he's projected into a role that is critical. Beck and Hage won't be springing up overnight as they will also have growing pains of their own. Suzuki will be 26 going into next season.

The injury to dach was very damaging last year for the time that was lost, and it certainly complicates things moving forward because you can't wait on him forever.

Beck will be ready next year, and I bet he does a better job at 2C right now if given a chance.

That's not a high bar right now, so it's not saying much. I'm sure the Habs were projecting this role to be more polished than it is at this point. It's a problem.

Just demote Dach and Newhook. Problem solved. Let them figure it out and earn their spot back.

I'm not going to get into newhook because that an entirely different scenario.

As for dach, that's the goal for everyone is to try and figure out how to get him going again. How to get there isn't so simple but each decision has to be aligned with the same question.

That question is whether sitting dach or moving him to the 4th line advances the rebuild of this team. In other words, does dropping him down and then promoting Evans or dvorak further the rebuild movement? I'd say no unless it's clearly an effort, and attitude issue (which I think is what burned Roy this year).

Having players earn premiere spots is important for development. Dach is currently the worst top 6 C in the entire league. Having him there stinking it up isnt good for his development either. You can see his confidence is shot. 2C is a lot of responsibility. You can see it in his body language.

I think we can agree that his confidence Iikely not good. Again, for a team in a rebuild mode, the way I would handle things are not exactly the same as if it was a team primed to win today.

So in the case of the Habs, I punish dach if it's an effort or attitude issue. From afar, it does look like that might be an issue from time to time but the room would know better and I would expect that the coaching staff acts accordingly if that's the case.

Effort and attitude are non negotiables to me because they are detrimental to the culture, which is already delicate when alot of losing is inevitable.

Our management stated before the season started they wanted to see pogress. They brought in Laine and now traded a dissapointing prospect for a vet D. Dach and Newhook are running out of rope for sure.

Management has used alot of vague terms. For instance, "In the mix" is just a fancy way of saying they don't expect playoffs again.

The way the habs define progress will also be different than the way a team like Vegas would, where it would be much more oriented towards wins and losses.

That's a lot of words that mean very little. They said they wanted to see progress, and their actions prove that. They have been hard on a lot of young players this year except Newhook and Dach. I have a feeling there might be trade talks.

Of course they want to see progress, but as I mentioned, that would be in the way that they define it to themselves.

Also I mentioned that I don't want to get into newhook but now that you mentioned him again, I guess I should tell you why. I've looked to him as a complimentary top 6 player at best so he's not even a part of my core, and I don't find him versatile enough to be a factor on the bottom lines. I don't think he has a long future here.

Neither player is complimentary anything.

It's never been easier to write off dach, and I understand the frustration. I don't think you will find people here saying they are happy with him right now.

I see with this quote that you think dach can't regain what he had prior to the injury and build on that.

That's fine, I just think we need to see it out for longer especially since he's not impeding another bright prospect who is pushing through at this time.

I wasnt a huge fan of his even before the injury. No shot. Crap at the dot. He didnt have enough tools to be a W or a C. He wasnt an offensive dynamo even in junior. I had hopes he could improve, but now, I have doubts, and I think we have players on the system that have more tools than he does. I have mostly moved on from him.

If you called up Beck and put him in Dach's spot the line would immediately be better. I am not advocating that Beck is called up but I think Beck is a better player.
