if this team is trying to be a contender, then Evans would either need to take a big step forward offensively or he's got to be the 4th line center.

Yeah, as much as I like Evans I don't see much offensive upside to him. Could be wrong but I'd rather have him as a shutdown 4C that can chip in 3C if needed.

If he has offensive upside, I see it coming out more on the wing - when he has less to worry about concerning the defensive end.

Ideally I have him playing on a 3rd line at wing, and then as a great injury replacement if a center goes down. I think he's better than a 4c.

I was hoping we'd see Evans - Danault - Gallagher as our 3rd line this year.

If Poehling makes it as a C, and with Hoffman already out, maybe we'll see him on the wing in the top 9 some time this year.

If we have to absolutely convert one of Poehling or Evans to the wing I would rather do it with Poehling who is bigger and can actually involve himself physically on the boards or protect the puck much better than Evans.

I can see Poehling becoming somewhat of a powerforward while Evans on the wing? Meh...

Whoever's better at Center should play center, imo. But I do have my doubts about Poehling as an NHL C.

Hopefully Poehling can come through though. If not, I think Poehling could potentially be a good power forward.

Jakes evans is nhler and a effective bottom 6 plAyer. He is improving year after year but this is not thats surprising... I looked this morning his numbers at university/AHL…. They were pretty good.

Exactly. Jake Evans was once considered a poor skater and now he is considered fast. One of the biggest improvements I have ever seen regarding improvement of skating.
Who considers Jake Evans fast???

I really like that type of deal. Evans is a pretty good playmaker and defensive player, he is going to put 30-40 points this year with quality wingers. Perfect 3C in my opinion, i'm a big fan of Evans.

Evans was never considered a poor skater, can we stop with that. He's described as a good skater on his midget to junior draft notes.

Yes, he improved.
Mysak also needs to improve.

Evans was a good skater in term of balance and agility but he was slow, I don’t know if I seen any guy making such a improvement in term speed and quickness.

He was not slow, he had a lacklustre first 3 steps - this is mostly muscle-related when your technique is good. I.e since he was sound technically he was predictably going to get faster when he got stronger.

Jake was never considered a poor skater, he just never played the game at a high pace. He spoke about this and Julien spoke about it. Evans just starting playing more up tempo instead of sitting in passing lanes. There were questions about his speed as he never exhibited it in college but it was later revealed that he simply chose to play the F3 role and was more worried about staying back as the high forward than forechecking and going hard north and south.

There never was anything in his gait or stride that looked off and most of us just thought he had to get stronger as his edges have always been good but seemed to lack explosiveness. We were wrong, myself included as he always had it but just didn't use it.

with the quality wingers he’s going to have, he’s going to produce no doubt.

With his passing ability and got two scorers like Hoffman and Gallagher, no doubt that line can be very good. 30-40 points is a good projection for Evans. He got hockey IQ and passing ability to product.
