Why would the Oilers do this? They need a 1A starter. Jake Allen isn't that.
Are there any 1A's available for trade? Maybe Grubauer? Why would the Oilers do this? They need a 1A starter. Jake Allen isn't that.

There isn't a lot of those on the market as we speak...
Why not?Montreal isn't trading Allen without knowing what Price's future is.
Teams rarely try to lose. Only when it is inevitable anyway. As much as fans might be excited to get a high pick this year, no NHL team wants to set themselves up as losers for the next 2 or 3 years. Why not?
Ride with Primeau and McNiven, aim for Wright and Bedard as we def need the help.
Problem solved
Allen keeps Edmonton in goalie purgatory. He is 100% the wrong solution. Is Allen really enough of an upgrade to justify the return that the Habs would likely want in return? Especially since they would need to take salary back in return. The Oilers have spent the last decade+ finding bargain goalies and while it works on occasion(Talbot's good year, Smith last year), it has usually bit them in the ass. I think they need to shell out the pieces necessary to return a quality goalie, even if it ends up as an overpayment.

Because Jake Allen is way better than Kosk. Ideally you go after MAF, get Chicago to eat half and ask them to take Kosk.
The issue is that one year potential run will cost you a first plus.
Korpisalo I can kinda see. Fleury ain’t happening and neither is Khudobin.Korpisalo Fleury Khudobin
All guys with less term or less cap hit.
Why Allen?
So how many firsts and prospects are the Oilers adding to make that deal? No way Hawks will retain, take salary, and lose the best player without significant add from Oilers.
Probably one first would do it. Chicago will trade him if he is okay with it, and there will be few teams out there who are able to take on MAF's cap hit. Without retention, we saw his value over the summer. With retention, to a team in need of a goalie at the deadline, a 1st is a huge win for Chicago. Koskinen and a 1st for MAF at 50% is possible because its Holland and he likes veterans. Nobody else will offer a 1st.So how many firsts and prospects are the Oilers adding to make that deal? seems like the worst part of it for the oilers is their increasing desperation. fleury at 50% plus taking on koskinen will be more costly than a firstProbably one first would do it. MTL fan here, fully agreed, Allen is a great backup, but his performance is decreasing with the number of games he plays. The issue is that I don’t see many good 1A goalies on the market.
