Wanted him to be trade bait but long term better for him to get lit up than Primeau. Won't steal many games, should still keep ya picking top 10 next year

It's a good deal for the Habs but I won't give Hughes too much credit as it was a necessary move.

2 x 3.85 million.

Good term, good money. Perfect deal.

Yup
Great deal
We're gonna need him for these 2 years
You need SOME kind of goaltending to get by lol

And for all the doomsdayers, .. you can still trade him dont worry jesus lol

Hard to find a decent vet on the market on such a team friendly deal. We need someone to bridge us for a few seasons and Allen is a perfectly fine option for it. He's reportedly an excellent teammate too and a good locker room presence. I sure never want to spend 10 AAV on a goalie ever again anyway, get me a league average guy on a reasonable deal any day.
Allen is such a guy, that when he hangs em up I give him a spot in Habs adm/mngmnt , preferably goalie department lol

He is that valuable as a presence for younger players
Dont gimmie that Wideman shit lol

If we can find a quality starter, then this deal isn't bad as our young guys won't be making much for a few more seasons as some of those young guys we haven't even drafted yet.

I think Gibson is ufa, but not sure how much faith I'd put in him

This is really good for the Habs. AAV and term are just what this organization needs. Kudos HuGo.

Smart move to stabilize the goaltending in the interim.
Allen is not elite but is in the middle of the pack like many other goalies.

Weeks later, Weekes was right.
Wow, that's weak...

Sorry. I'll see myself out.

He's a fine goalie, problem with him is stamina/consistency. Needs someone else that can play 30-40 games, not every team has that backup. Montambeault barely cuts it, but we need to lose anyway.

I dont think his problem is stamina, I think its between the ears when the pressure comes. Good thing for the habs is that he probably won't have too many high pressure situations. Perhaps the second year of the new contract there will be some expectations. Perhaps it is a bit of stamina, recalling some things now but he can handle 50 games a year easy if it scheduled out properly.

I wasnt a fan of the initial signing but he has exceeded expectations on all fronts IMO.

Happy with this, I'm a big believer in the idea that you should have at least basically competent NHL goaltending even in a rebuild, and this is perfect term/$ to accomplish that.

Very meh about this but looks like Hughes got the term he wanted. Primeau and Monty not exactly impressing so not totally surprised.
Serge Savard once said, goaltending is no big deal, until you don't have it................this is where we are. The fact that we were spoiled for so long with Price is now right in our rear view mirror.
Allen is ok if he plays 25 games.......................if he plays more he is a sieve at times............the only difference moving forward is HuGo is building a better team out front of him, and the others....................so we may score our way out of things at times.............

It does give the HuGo tandem time, to think on what to do as we move forward. I still think Primeau is the guy but I am wavering....

Allen is a solid goalie.
I don’t like this.
He helps push us further from Bedard.

Basically see this as a gift for being lit up this season in essentially his final contract year where he can expect big money. He has his cup ring so maybe he's okay with losing and being a leader for monetary compensation.
