NFL: Jaguars to hire Liam Coen as head coach

Coen didn't want to yet another victim of Baalke. He's thrown more coaches under the bus than anybody, while kissing serious owner ass. & isn't even a very good GM to begin with.

Refresh me?

I think he's talking about how Scott Pioli suddenly lost his job deep into Chiefs negotiations with Andy Reid:

Not only that, Pioli was the one who pushed so hard got them to hire Reid. Anyone in Philadelphia knew he was writing his own death wish.

Well whoever gets the Bucs OC job will by this time next year be named the head coach of, someone.

Coen didn't want to yet another victim of Baalke. He's thrown more coaches under the bus than anybody, while kissing serious owner ass. & isn't even a very good GM to begin with.

Sounds like Coen cured the cancer. Doctors will be studying this for years to come.

Gotta imagine that Coen is going to essentially be able to pick his own boss. All things negative about the Jags organization aside, that's a solid tail wagging the dog situation for a coach.

lol Coen didn’t scheme his way into the job. Shad Kahn literally said out loud that if a head coaching candidate didn’t want to work with Baalke, he’d consider a different GM. Coen, like any sensible HC candidate, said “ok, Shad, I want Baalke out”.

The Buccaneers losing their 1 season offensive coordinator 2 years in a row.
Consequences of having a defensive minded head coach.

Titans with Vrabel was really good through their first two OCs in LaFleur and Smith. Not so much with Downing or Kelly.

If your OC is really good at his job, someone will pay through the nose to get him.

This is such a BS hit piece. Everybody and their mother knew the Jaguars weren't going to hire who they wanted to if Baalke was still GM. People don't forget hes thrown a handful of coaches under the bus to save his own ass not to mention he just isn't a very good GM. It's unfortunate Khan waited until the 11th hour to fire him but at least he was able to get a coach he wanted.

Coen took a massive raise and has a pretty major amount of organizational power for a first time head coach and the downside to the team he jilted was that they found out they needed a new offensive coordinator in January.

Being more upset than mildly annoyed is just grasping pearls, tbqh.

And even if he schemed his way into the Jags job.... so? Everyone and their dog knew that Baalke was horrible for the Jags, so him getting canned was more overdue than anything, and you have to take head coaching jobs when the time comes as you're never more than a bad season's regression away from going from being an up-and-comer to a permanent coordinator or positional coach. The annals of NFL history are filled with coordinators that could've been head coaches, but delayed for a hopefully better job or out of loyalty to their team only to result in never getting an opportunity again.
