Jagr: "I never stretch"

You guys are clearly confusing stretching with Jagr's pregame routine of becoming one with the ice.

The second pic is thread worthy in itself.

Meh. Some say stretching is beneficial, some say it hinders performance and some say it does nothing.

That's not stretching. That's an old man sitting on the ice not able to get up.:sarcasm:

He's just Blue Steeling in the second...

I played, Football, baseball, Hockey, raced motorcycles, etc etc and never did the whole stretching routine............folks who stretched a lot that i played with, competed against etc all seemed to pull muscles, tear ligaments, cramp up etc one time or another .
I am 57 years old and ride a bicycle 150+ miles a week ( doing a 100 mile ride tomorrow ) and i never stretch out before a ride ........... I do use an inversion table which relieves back tightness and soreness very effectively, but i do not do the stretching routine . I played goal back in my hockey days, and never did the crazy stretching stuff you see netminder's do today, although in my day we played a different style of net minding . I guess stretching is good for some folks, i just thought it was a bit over done by many folks .

oh that hilarious jaromir.

next he's going to do an interview with dreger saying "if smoking newports was good enough for guy lafleur, i'd be a fool not to smoke."

while making this face:

he probably means he doesnt stretch before a workout. I spoke to a fit 74 years old with a good core and he admitted he never stretches as well.

Static stretches before weightlifting is pretty commonly perceived as a bad practice now. The jury is out on static stretches after, but I find it helps with recovery (dead legs after squats especially).

Assuming he does lots of mobility exercises (lunges, etc. like an athlete would) and not just powerlifting, he probably doesn't need to stretch separately.

We all know that one guy who feels the need to stretch for like a half an hour before his workout

Finnish article, but in it he claims that he really never has stretched, and that he mostly works out at night. Kinda weird, but also gives some validity to some studys in the matter, that stretching isn't really that helpful or needed at all in sports.

Well, that make two this I don't have in common with Jagr. I stretch before playing, and I don't sleep with 18-year-old models. :skeptic: :(

My personal experience as a dek hockey player of many years, an amateur wrestler throughout middle and high school, and a runner for a couple of years in high school has me agreeing with this. Most important thing is the warm up, doing a light version of whatever exercise you plan on doing to prepare your body. Only time I really do any stretching is for rehab purposes.
