I think the Flames should be open to offers on Markstrom. He's sucked this year and has been on the decline. He's looking again like the Markstrom of old when he was with Florida, letting in back breaking goals. Being a runner up for the Vezina last year was a huge fluke. I don't see him getting to that level again. Vladar makes 1/4 his salary and he's been superb this year. Give Vladar the starting job and bring in a strong backup so they can do a 1A/1B goalie situation.

The longer the Flames hold onto Markstrom, the less they get for him. Trade him this season while he's still got value.

Any teams interested in him? What would you offer?

He’s not going anywhere.

He’s been awful but he’s a goalie and goalies do this all the time. You’re stuck with his contract regardless

I hate goalies so much. Who on earth would have predicted Vasy, Markstrom, Demko and Shesterkin all being bad?

Who would have predicted Ullmark, Kochetkov, Murray and Craig Anderson to be lights out?

It really is crazy.

Maybe to the Sabres in the summer? Flames will need to shed at least one sizable contract in the off season to be cap compliant. Buffalo has a ton of cap space and need a goalie. Markstrom will need to waive his NTC/NMC but it's not impossible.

Vasy is pretty good these days. Slow start sure, but last 10-12 games he's been lights out.

Here's his last 8 :

Goalies seldom get good returns. And given his play this season, Markstrom’s close to negative value. His recent play has been good, but there aren’t going to be many takers for a hot-and-cold $6-million a year goalie.

Markstom is 3-1-2 in his last 6 with the 2 both being in shootouts. He only had one lemon game since November and that was against the Blues.

What do Shesterkin and Vasy have to do with Demko and Markstrom? The former 2 have been middle of the pack the latter two are abysmal.

The only move is to fire Treliving and Sutter at the end of the year and bring in a new coach and GM. Markstrom along with Huberdeau and Kadri will likely bounce back next season with a new coach.

What Flames going to do with Markstrom? Has 3 years left at 6 million.
Keep him ofc. First he's got a full no move clause so he isn't going anywhere. Second he was the Vezina runner up just last year so odds are quite good he bounces back next season. Third he's being overworked now, 11 straight starts is a lot for anyone.

Treliving is on an expiring contract. I also don't think he's at all the problem here but he will almost certainly take the fall for it. Darryl shouldn't be coach next year but he probably wont be fired because of how close he is with ownership. Maybe they can move him into a POHO position and bring in a strong GM/re-sign Treliving (if Sutter becomes POHO they will need a GM who isn't just Sutter's puppet and can actually think fpr themselves).

Bounce back to what exactly? His production this year is almost identical to his career points per game.

He's been bad all year though.
Not true. Outside the last 2 games he's been quite good the past 3 weeks. Before then his wife was pregnant with their first born and it's been highly speculated by insiders that that was probably causing him a lot of stress and preoccupying his mind.

Whether you think child birth is a good excuse or not doesn't really matter here though. The fact is he has a full NMC and won't be going anywhere.
