Did they mean Mercer instead of Nemec? Mercer is a center the thread title advertised.

That seems light from NJ though but I don’t see Nemec being moved.

Looked alright until nemec's name was involved
Look closer.

Hanifin is a top pair D for 9 years (assuming the deal come with an extension). He’s 26. People make him out to be a grandpa cause he’s been playing for so long.

Coronato is only behind Stankoven in terms of AHL production for young players. A top 20 prospect himself.

Markstrom is back in top form.

Foote doesn’t have a ton of value and Vanecek is a net negative. So this essentially boils down to Hanifin, Markstrom and Coronato for Nemec & a late first. Nemec is a good piece, but is he really *that* good?

Coronato has been great in the AHL and isn’t far off being back in the NHL. He’s a good, young player with lots of upside - exactly what the Flames would be looking to receive in any deal they make for their older UFAs. This deal makes no sense at all.

The Flames getting Nemec makes this make sense for them. If Nemec is on the table, Coronato getting moved out is a no brainer. If there's any way to keep Coronato, then the Flames should do it.

This move would accelerate Calgary's rebuild and likely give Calgary a top 5 pick this year too. Calgary without Markstrom is horrible. Calgary ends up with the #2 from 2022 and a top 5 from 2024 and likely 2025.

Mercer isn’t even better than Coronato

Yes, 22 year old in his third full season in the nhl including 56 point season is not better than 21 year old who hasn't been able to stick in the NHL so far.

Ultimately, you may be right....but right now it has no place in the fabric of this reality. I get wanting to gamble on the flashes of Coronato moving forward, but that's something different.

I mean the first one with Nemec I do easily. This one I say no to easily. There's a deal to be made with the Devils and Flames, but you're talking our best non-goalie prospect being part of it here. We just can't do that.

it really would be annoying that new jersey once again gets the players that I wanted on the wings two years in a row lmao.

Although, it doesn't look like meier would have worked anyways so there is that.

Maybe I'm misreading the teams' respective capfriendly pages but this doesn't seem to be going to work cap wise unless Calgary retains a large amount of money and cap dumps go to Calgary.

Well, in order to land a 19 year old former 2nd overall pick defensemen already performing in the NHL like Simon Nemec, you would obviously have to give up a high value prospect like Coronato in the package...

You aren’t going to find a Devils fan on here willing to part with Nemec. Maybe drop him and Coronato completely.

Good enough to make this trade not happen.

The Flames always make their prospects play in the AHL. I think Coronato has more value than Mercer. If you think Mercer has significantly more value than a top 20 prospect I think you’re clueless.

So where is the value for Hanifin and Markstrom?

That’s brutal for Calgary without Nemec. Nemec is a great young Dman and you dropped him out and Coronato which makes the trade less valuable to Calgary. Foote is likely waiver worthy soon and he hasn’t even played this season. Vanecek is a cap dump and has no value. So your saying a late first fro Markstrom and Hanifin. Absurd.

You didn't say anything about value.
Well that’s the point of a trade. Would I do Mercer for Coronato straight up. Sure I could see that.

But where is the part where the Flames are trading a defencemen that is probably top 10 in the league in terms of value when you take out contract status? As well as a high end goalie at a time when there are few goalies playing well? As well as taking Vanacek as a dump. Mercer instead of Nemec is hilariously bad.
