If he is our future #1...he will most definitely force the Habs to bring him up next year. He could possibly steal the spot for next years playoffs. With the hype around him....I expect him to take over for good in 26/27 at the latest.
I can't say there's any more hype for him than Devon Levi who hasn't even become a full time backup yet. Probably Levi was considered an even better and more pro ready prospect too.If he is our future #1...he will most definitely force the Habs to bring him up next year. You're talking about league where Cayden Primeau is 20-2 with a .926 SV% and a sub 2.00 GAA.Just watching them first game highlights; He is one cold MFer.
We are not in Montembeault/Dobes land folks.
He’s been great at every level. That was not the case with Primeau prior to college. He was a decent enough USHL goalie, but nowhere near as good as Fowler. You're talking about league where Cayden Primeau is 20-2 with a .926 SV% and a sub 2.00 GAA.
It's great to be excited. I am too. But let's not jump ahead that quickly.

You can disagree with their abilities but Levi was the key piece in the Reinhart trade. Fowler wouldn't fetch a 1B/2C combined with our first round pick. Levi was very clearly well thought of.I can't agree there, Levi did win the Mike Richter award twice but the knock on him was always his size and how as he moved up he would get exposed more.

If he comes up as a backup, he won't just play 20ish games. I suspect it'll be north of 30. If he isn't reliable enough to handle that workload, then he shouldn't be in the NHL.

Fowler m’a l’air d’être un joyeux luron
I'm not sure why Fowler would care that much about burning a year of his ELC. He isn't going to be the starter next year, and likely not the year after either, maybe as a 1a, 1b. You'd think taking the extra year to establish himself as a pro would be a better financial decision, but then again a lot of hockey players seem to make dumb decisions when it comes to contracts and money. How many players (including 3 of our own) signed long term deals during a flat cap when they could've made more if they took bridge deals and waited?
Not too concerned in any case.

He looks a lot like Bobrovsky in net. Any other style comps?
What is the typical nhl rookie age of recent exceptional goalies? I remember shirtless drunk Roy in the car during the 86 parade all sunburned with his gumby arms… Good times. Some of you have way too much PTSD over our previous development programs lol, Fowler is a stud and it’s not unreasonable to think he’ll have a chance at 1B to start 2026-27 season
Dustin Wolf is 23 as one comparable but that's still about 3.5 years older than Roy at the start of his full rookie season. Which shows how exceptional Patrick was. And maybe teams were more willing then to start younger goalies? What is the typical nhl rookie age of recent exceptional goalies? Carey Price also became dominant at around 23, before that he was just average but you could see he had a lot of potential.Dustin Wolf is 23 as one comparable but that's still about 3.5 years older than Roy at the start of his full rookie season. If NJ had another good centre after Hughes and Hischier they would jump at the chance to get Fowler. Their goaltenders are shat. I'd love to scoop Mercer out of NJ, but not for FowlerIf NJ had another good centre after Hughes and Hischier they would jump at the chance to get Fowler. Their goaltenders are shat. Several other teams have no goaltenders.

I would say probably more likely 2027-28 he become a 1B. Very few goalies in history become starters at 21/22 years old. We just got spoiled by Price. Wolf is the only U24 starter in the league. Spencer Knight is almost one. Those guys were far more hyped/complete prospects too.
Last year Ersson was the youngest starter at 24. The year before that Otter who was already in his third year at 23 years old, second year as a starter. That's the only guy in the last decade, who hasn't been arrested for being a rapist, to become a starter before 23. Before that the last guy was Vas, who shared the net still his first year as a starter.
Really just not common at all, even the most elite goalie prospects usually start as backups at 21/22 and become starters at 23/24 years old.
