What do you think Jarmo wants for wiz....

A)Picks and prospects(basically a salary dump. Plans on using that money on July 1st or future trade. I would be happy if they got Boychuk on July 1st.)
B)Young forward(Devante Smith Pelly or Etem type)
C)Top 6 forward (Reilly or Eberle type)
D)Young defensemen
E)Opposite player of Wiz(player that is paid a lot but defensive)

Matt Frattin and a conditional draft pick.

is this wiz deal a smokescreen for another deal in the works? shedding some salary for another player or planned FA splash?

I would hope so.. they can't just trade Wiz away and then ignore the hole that's been created. At the very least I would hope they could get Reilly signed by opening up an NHL roster spot for him (if that's what he was looking for).

Please god no. FA is a joke this year.

Unless we get a good return, this is absolutely horrible.

If Wiz is dealt it will be the 2nd conseq. year that Richards has driven away a veteran. RJ last year, but we were cool with this around here. But this is a concerning trend. You can count Atkinson possibly in this group too because he was in TR's doghouse last year for a bit, and he's possibly dealt too.

Atkinson and Umberger would have absolutely noone to blame but themselves

It's funny, yet sad that there was all this talk of defensive depth coming into this season. Carrying 8 D for quite a while, even 9 for a brief period.

When it comes down to it, they are essentially preparing to gut the Blue line after how poorly they played this season with the only untouchables being Savard and Murray.

If Richards helped "drive away" a useless slug like Umberger that resulted in getting Hartnell, then he would be due for a bonus. A large one.

It's idle speculation concerning Wiz at this point. Nobody outside of the inner circle of the CBJ knows what transpired leading to his scratch.

Players like Atkinson need prodding upon occasion. He's earned doghouse status from time to time.

Considering the term Wiz has on his contract, isn't it interesting that Jarmo is trying to move him at the deadline rather than wait until the draft/offseason? Hints at some urgency

I'd argue otherwise. It's a total seller's market with most of the West still dogging it out for playoff berths and teams like the Flyers and Devils having delusions of making it. Doubt Wiz has as much value in the off-season, where teams aren't desperate and they might think twice before adding a big contract that might not play to expectations.

The trade of Wiz, however, seems very questionable. He is having a decent year and is certainly not our biggest problem on D (JJ, Tyuts and Prout easily rank ahead of him).. If this is due to some dispute with TR, I am perturbed. TR is simply not a good enough coach to be driving players out of town.

I think you meant to say it's a seller's market?

This whole Wiz trade rumor makes no sense to me. Yes, he makes boneheaded plays for time to time, but I don't see where we're going to get the value for him. I'd consider a Jack Johnson rumor more believable.

I think Jarmo saw the haul Toronto got for Cody Franson and his eyes lit up. People overpay out the ass for right handed offensive guys. I'm guessing he expects a huge return.

So we went from not planning on any major moves to trading Wiz? Something went on in that locker room.

It was already reported we were willing to listen on him (among others). Then Franson was traded for essentially a 1st rounder. That's likely when things shifted from "listening" to "shopping" but I don't disagree, something may have happened in that locker room.

Or nothing happened at all, and this is all part of the games that get played as the trade deadline hits its final 10 days.

Maybe we've forgotten since it's been a while since the team was in this situation. The last two years have involved playoff contention, the year before that was overshadowed by the Nash circus, and even in 2011 the team was still competitive at the deadline.

Wiz and Umberber are completely different. Just because a player is scratched doesn't mean they are in the dog house or about to be traded.

I think there is an abundance of defensive assests on the team. Wiz might have the highest trade value of them all right now. I think the trade could be made for a number of different reasons.
1. Depth on defense
2. Filling the void left by Horton for a top 6 forward.
3. Mike reiley
4. Emergence of david savard
5. Slight hope that Murray will be reliable next year and beyond.
6. Draft picks

Also, if they scratched wiz on Sunday I would think something is already in the works. This trade could already be completed.

Will be very interesting to see if Wisniewski dresses tomorrow night. My gut tells me no but we will see. Pretty amazing to think we could have seen him play his last game in our sweater.

You've got 5 solid reasons there :sarcasm:

I'm guessing he expects a huge return.

And he better make damn sure he gets it too if he trades Wiz. No more Matt Frattin's and conditional 2nd round picks.

Wiz is no doubt our best Offensive D-Man, and our PP would not be top 10 without him. Trading Wiz leaves a bigger void than people realize. If Savard was forced to take Wiz's spot on the PP, we'd be giving up shorthanded goals left, right and center. Savard literally makes the dumbest turnovers, and he's slower than a ****ing turtle.
He makes Wiz look like Nicklas Lidstrom.

Then Savard learned from the King Turtle himself. And that would be Wiz. He's slow as ****.

I'm still not sure I buy this rumor, Porty seems to be trying to make something out of Wiz's scratch so that if something does really happen, he'll look smart.

Well, if Wiz does get traded, we've got some major holes to fill in the offseason. Horton must still be replaced and then we would need another top D. We're not that deep to be able to replace him from within. While I wouldnt expect another year of so many injuries, there will be injuries next year, and trading Wiz would leave our d core very thin
