I currently live in Cleveland, so this is a full-blown blessing. They'd have to drag me out of the Q!

I would love this, been hoping for this for years! I would totally go up to 8-10 games a year to see the youngsters, especially if they were in the playoffs and we aren't!

Yeah, haven't watched any games this season, only a handful of games last season.

While I was happy to have hockey back after the lockout, and enjoyed the excitement of the run to almost make the playoffs, I had difficulty finding the passion to contributing money to the pot would be fought over again in a few more years.

Not really sure why I ended up back and reading the past few weeks. I have a 1 month old keeping us up at nights, and rather than working on the video game I'm developing it took less brainpower for my fingers to type hfboards and mindlessly read who should be fired this week.

It's weird. I don't really care about the team, but miss chatting with a lot of the people here.

Well, welcome back. I hope you find that hockey mojo again because you have been missed. I hear ya on that one year old. I raised three.

Good luck on the video game. Curious as to what kind of game it is, RPG, RTS, FPS?

If this does happen, I would not expect a name change. Gilbert and co. have put a lot of time and resources into developing the Lake Erie Monsters brand. And it has been very successful. I don't see them wanting to risk that by going with a new name. Maybe a tweak or two on the colors to match up with CBJ, but that would likely be it.

I agree. They are 3rd in the league in attendance so they are doing something right. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. There is absolutely no point in restarting the marketing of the team from scratch.

I've got a half dozen puzzle/casual games prototyped and waiting to be fleshed out. They'll probably end up on mobile for free when I'm done. (Not "Free to Play" that try to get in your wallet every few minutes, and not loaded with advertisements either. I'm not doing it for the money, this is just my current hobby like making the CBJ videos was, something to do for fun.)

I'm in the middle of helping a Cleveland Institute of Art student finish her senior project by making up a Pac-Man clone with her art assets that will be a mini-game inside her much larger game that she is building.

Back on topic though, having the Jackets and Monsters affiliated may help get me to a few more games, but I think it would definitely help raise awareness for the Jackets even more in NE Ohio.

The most recent game had 12,000+ mostly because it is cheap entertainment in Cleveland. While hockey fandom is building, there are still tons of "Sports" fans who show up to games in their Browns, Indians, Cavs, or OSU gear. But for the last game, that's 12,000 who watched a 2-3 minute recap of the recent games played by the Avs during one of the intermissions. It definitely might help spur interest if those intermissions were spent playing recaps of Jackets games.

Most Monsters' fans could care less about the Avalanche, and there are some, like me, who are hostile towards them and their ridiculously spoiled fan base. This will be seven of eight years without the playoffs, and I can't wait for the Avs to stop placing their garbage in Cleveland. I'll root for them here, but once they go up, I could really care less, and that attitude has become much more prevalent as the team continues to be nothing better than mediocre. I really don't think many will miss Colorado, and if the Jackets come here, great, I'm all for it.

My manager is a VIP season ticket holder for the Monsters (guess these are Club seats with free Buffet during game). He offers me tickets a couple times a year, but I only go when he has the office Christmas party at a December game. Since I live north of Columbus, it's only 1-1/2 hours for me to get to the Q I'd definitely go more often now to see CBJ players, especially if they are in the playoffs.

So would there be any chance that LEM games would be picked up on FSO or some other outlet when the CBJ doesn't play? Does anyone carry AHL games on TV or the web?

honestly, playing them on STO wouldnt be the worst idea

the only thing I ever watch on STO are Indians games really

I've never understood the business model of STO. Maybe now that they are owned by Fox, they'll start showing something in addition to Bruce Drennan and Indians games. Seems to me the only decent advertising inventory these days is "live sports". LEM seems like a no brainer, even if they aren't the CBJ affiliate. I also wonder why they don't show more Clippers games, even if they are mostly tape delayed.

I would have to think there are lots of live sports options that would beat the pants off "Indians replay" in the dead of winter.

I've always thought that the Cavs should be on STO. That way STO is the "Cleveland" feed (Indians/Cavs) and FSO is the "Columbus/Cincy" feed. This would allow all four teams statewide coverage (except for the Indians and Reds blackout in each other's core territory of course). Each channel would also have a proper FS+ (not just a cable-only alt) that would also be on satellite as well (think FS Detroit+) that would handle conflicts as well as lower level teams when the main feed is being used by major league teams (i.e. STO+ could air the Monsters, Gladiators, etc. while FSO+ could air the Clippers, Crew, etc.).

They were supposed to have some games on STO this season, but they couldn't get a title sponsor, so that went away. AHL teams have to buy the time to show their games and have sponsors pick up most of the costs, the rest just comes from the advertising budget. STO has a board add at the Q, and they were on the pocket schedules, but the deal fell through, I heard.

This was true about the Clippers baseball team here in Columbus. For the longest time they were affiliated with the Yankees and no one I know cared less about them. To be honest, though, there were some great players for the Yankees that came through Columbus. Not to mention that the relationship between Columbus and New York was awful for the last four or five years that the Clippers were affiliated with them.

Since the Indians picked up Columbus as their AAA affiliate, interest in the team has really taken off. The new stadium in the Arena district hasn't hurt either.

Exactly. When the Clippers were an NYY farm team, I would actively root for them to lose since I hate the Yankees. So much better with the Tribe affiliation. With regards to a TV deal for LEM, I would not watch them if they are an Avs farm team. I would probably watch a little of the current Springfield team if they were broadcast here just out of curiosity to see what Rychel, Anderson, et al. are up to. You make LEM a CBJ affiliate, then I am probably watching them on most nights they would be on when the CBJ doesn't play rather than whatever game (if any) is being shown on NBCSN (don't shell out the money for Center Ice). The combination of a (relatively) local team and the CBJ youngsters would make quite a potent pairing. Plus the ability to get up to the Q a couple of times to see them live would also be great.

So, according to the twitter machine, it sounds like Columbus-Springfield will be parting ways tomorrow.
