Perhaps a switch on how the defense plays more offensively is the main reason.

But then again, dmen have never been this big. The Avs are the exception because teams really value big defensemen these days. Even more than they did before.

Yeah, I mean it’s not just one or two things why scoring is going up. Shooters are getting better, game is faster for D to keep up and not make too many mistakes. Can’t avoid mistakes when the game is this fast. Every one is offensive minded, 4 lines and 3 pairs of D all thinking offense.
