Just curious as to what his value would be around the league. I think he's a good player and underrated but I've heard others less optimistic about him. Maybe I am high on him because he played at Michigan and feel for him with his parental issues.

Average second pairing guy, way above average third pairing. I could see Columbus moving him to look more at their younger pieces.

I had his value around Ryan Spooner or Gustav Nyquist.

"Average second pairing guy" might be about right, but to be honest it's still to be determined. All we know for sure is that he's not an average first pair guy. He didn't do that well in that role (oddly, except in the big games like playoffs), and now is in a lesser role. We'll let you know when we find out how he does in second pair minutes.

If he is an average second pair guy, then his salary is entirely appropriate, and the length of his deal, along with his big-game rep make him a valuable piece. I do think Columbus will look to trade him within a year, assuming Werenski is making the anticipated splash, and Nutivaara and others are also pushing their way onto the roster.

for me, i wouldn't even trade a 7th round pick for him. He is terrible,it would be a waste of cap space.

Two valuable pieces and one untouchable for one valuable piece, one warm body, and a throwaway pick. Yeah, sure, we'll get right on that.

But, hey, at least this time you didn't try to simultaneously poach both Werenski and Jones, unlike the last few tries you've made throughout this offseason . So I guess that's something like an improvement. Bravo, I suppose.

The thing is, another team might not see Johnson or Hartnell as valuable pieces. The Jackets do, however, and so will not give them away for less. As a result, the only viable trades containing them are ones which treat Johnson or Hartnell as valuable pieces. Barring such a trade, Columbus is going to keep and use them to its benefit until it no longer benefits the team to do so. At that point Columbus may look into moving them for less. But we are not currently at that point.

sure he will be. He has another year so it would not be a straight rental. Only reason I think his value could be less is if the expansion draft scares people.

The expansion could be a value add if you want him as a rental and then use him as bait to be taken.

Given this guy's track record, I am not prepared to extend that kind of benefit of the doubt. Or, alternatively - can I therefore claim that I don't see Connor McDavid as a "valuable piece" and get him for cheap that way? :)

Besides - that poster isn't interested in the slightest in Jack Johnson, or really in Scott Hartnell either. He wants Werenski. He's made that abundantly clear, over and over and over and over and over and over. When he's not proposing Jones and Werenski together, he's proposing other bundles with Werenski. When proposals are being discussed, he demands Werenski (demanded him in an RNH deal, for example). Werenski, Werenski, Werenski, always Werenski. Any time any sort of Jackets proposal is made by him, talked about by him, or noticed by him, inevitably he will demand Werenski, and no amount of "he's not for sale", "we're not moving him", "we need him", "WE GET IT SHUT UP ALREADY", et cetera has ever dissuaded him from this Holy Crusade.

It's like the bad old "Hemsky for Johansen" days, only it's all coming from one poster.

EDIT: Went ahead and checked. Since February this year, he's posted 23 times about Columbus and/or Columbus players. 21 of those are proposals or demands that involve Werenski. The other two are comments about offersheeting Seth Jones. List:

Clb needs
Center- rnh
Top 4 d- Klef and Fayne
4th overall as a make up the difference between Werenski and Klef

Edmonton needs

Clb gets a 1/2 center and a number 2 d man and a probably top 10 pick possibly top 5 and gets to dump Hartnell

Edm gets a potential top d man and a solid 2 d man prospect and a veteran for the 3rd line

That would make Pouliot and Ebs and Yak expendable for other d men and still sign lucic to a decent deal
With those guys we could afford to potentially lose the deal to make the team better but you have to start some where

Other d men I would look at is Klein and or try to put a package together for sergachyov or even webber

Seth Jones offer sheet has edm written all over it that or trade for him plus Werenski

Cap dump

a 3 c like hudler
a prospect like werenski
a depth fwd like pirri
a true shooter to play with mc d
and a stop gap top 4 man till next year
a better back up option then gust

so

lucic mc d ????
pouliot rnh ebs
maroon hudler drai either those guys can with places
hendricks letestu kassian

klef lars
sek ???
davidson ???

talbot
???

A pm d and a couple depth fwds that can step in when injuries occur

So Werenski and wiz for pm d and Pirri and Hudler for fwds

The only way I'd trade and unprotected first is for Werenski plus or Trouba plus or a 1st plus from us for ekblad

How about

Here comes the offer sheets for edm now
Jones and lindholm

Well clb doesn't have the cap space to match what we can offer
(Both of those were in the same thread, by the way.)
