I don’t understand why Devils would deal for high priced rental like Nelson. Smart move is to deal for guy with term, so you can still give yourself chance to make playoffs and maybe win a round but also have him next year when Hughes returns.

Markstrom is back so they are going to rely on him heavily obviously. That's why they brought him in, he can squeeze then out a few wins on his own.

i rather have a high priced rental than surrendering a young promising player down the road because of a long term contract takes up cap space.

I would go for Nelson, he would be the cheapest #2C to acquire. Tough to replace your #1C and it hurts their chances to do damage in the playoffs this year.
