I think MN can if Buffalo will take cap back in the form of a very good player, Fiala(5M), and maybe, a decent player, like Greenway(2M). Both will be RFA's next year, and the raises they will likely receive will bring them close to Eichel's cap hit. I think the issue all along is that Guerin feels that KA was asking too much, but it could also be that Leipold, the owner, doesn't want to pay millions of dollars to have a new acquisition sit on the sidelines for the bulk of a year after just having to pay millions for Suter and Parise to go away.

It could well be that Guerin doesn't want to tank the season by trading away a couple of good players and having the asset he acquired sit on the bench for the bulk of the season, effectively causing them to tank.

I don't see how NSH can take on Eichel's salary, unless BUF is prepared to take on RyJo or Duchene(assuming they waive for Buffalo), and that would be crazy for the Sabres.
Yeah...Nashville only does it if RyJo or Duchene waive for Buffalo. Otherwise it's a moot point. You're right.

Some players like the proximity to Toronto, and both of them might want to escape the heat of their failures to perform in NSH? even if they do waive, I just can't see Buffalo signing on to taking those awful contracts, don't care how many prospects they throw at them.

Could be the price to pay, though, at this point, to unload Eichel and start moving on from all that.

Naw...those guys can't play. Sabres are close to getting out from under KO's contract, and still have Skinner's monstrosity. They can't afford to take on either of those two, even if they get Askarov, Tomasino and Svechkov(which i can't see NSH doing).

I just put nothing past Poile to want to make a splash and Kevyn Adams' growing desperation.

NYR are out.

If you want to push it, and say they can absorb player risk and medical cost, fine, and can do Strome + Geo + Hajek + small + to address cap {+ conditional 7ths that could morph into 1sts}, that works for this year. But unless Eich, in worse case scenario is def LTIR or able to be bought out, Rangers would be on the hook for him at 10 per including next season and beyond [not sustainable] and if he is in the sour spot of not bad enough to retire but bad enough to be unproductive, they would be screwed.

lol the Sabres aren't taking on one of the worst contracts in the league to "unload" an injured franchise center. Eichel sitting and rotting is a better outcome for Buffalo than that.

They'll have to take some salary back in order to get rid of salary. Or else you're basically saying that the list of teams Eichel will go to is limited to Arizona.

I'm sure they will. They have to, other wise they'll drop below the cap floor. That doesn't mean they need to take on long-term trash contracts.

No one is saying Buffalo isn't taking salary back in an Eichel deal, they aren't taking players that are long-term anchors moving forward and that's exactly what Duchene and Johansen are.

Gibson + Tracey + Steel + top 5 protected 1st + Thrun for Eichel

Top 5 goalie in league and Buffalos biggest need (other than a new owner and management) , former 1st round two way scoring winger + Former 1st round pick center + Thrun who was projected to be a top 2 round pick in his draft year but fell to mid rounds but is on trajectory to be a solid #3-4 dman

I always felt the Fiala, Rask combo with a prospect/pick was a good fit.
Unfortunately Fiala's 1-year extension this summer leaves him in the same situation that Reinhart was in. I'd be surprised if the Sabres were interested in taking that on unless they were very confident about their ability to flip him at the trade deadline.

I don't think the Rangers were ever really that serious towards acquiring Eichel, nor do I think the Sabres were ever that serious in trading him to the Rangers.

And to be honest, I'm a happy camper. I no longer have to read unrealistic expectations for trade scenarios involving the Sabres and Rangers.

That was never happening so get over it. They're backed into a corner.
