Never a fan but the man's work and career definitely makes this main board worthy. Wish him all the best in his life.

Always thought he missed his true calling as a Wrestling announcer. He would have been great at it. Hopefully they find out what’s wrong with him and are able to treat it.

Never understood the problem with a commentator being a homer for his team. We have Pierre Houde in Montreal, biggest homer there is, barely show any emotions when the opposite team scores, always whining about the refs... and most people love and respect him regardless lol.

All my respect to Edwards, he was super entertaining and spiced things up!
I agree with most of your comment. Just adding that even if Pierre Houde is a homer, he is a class act. I don't ever recall him saying anything controversial like Edwards when I watch Habs games. I thought Edwards overall was a great announcer when he was simply calling the game. The homer stuff was fun too as it spiced things up, as long as it wasn't anything controversial. If Edwards never said anything controversial nobody would really complain too much about him.

The fact he did say controversial things is what separated him from the rest of the vanilla cookie cutter announcers . The fact he has a main board thread on a gossip page is a testament to his work.

It's because being a homer commentator and going to far into that relm is different things. I believe commentators for the local club should be homers and actively cheering for the team like a fan. But when you actively and constantly cheer for players getting hurt or asking a bruins player to actually send players to the hospital or the after life, thats where and when edwards gets most of his hatred from.

When did this happen?
2019-20 season on 2 occasions, once vs dallas when polak got tangled up with wagner and went into the boards. Edwards said that polak had a case of hockey karma as he was being stretchered off the ice.

Later that season there was an incident involving chara and a few lightning players that started multiple fights. Edwards after one of the fights between kuraly and killorn, said that killorn should take his degree to the hospital after being soundly beat by kuraly in the fight.

That same game, chara and maroon squared off, in which edwards says he is saying you want to see the afterlife? I will take you there.

Jesus Christ. You're absolutely reaching.

You're pretty much looking for something to get mad at.

You think it is right for a commentator to be saying those things when players are hurt?

It is the reason among fans edwards ranked dead last commentators, because these comments was an every game thing with him.
I'll give you the Polak one.

The other two are legitimately nothing. No different than a commentator saying "____ was destroyed at open ice by so and so" - Was he actually destroyed? To the point of not living? No.

If you think he's LITERALLY meaning what he said in those to "fights" - You're out to lunch. It's also such a weird thing to get upset about, lol.

Why are you clicking on and responding to a thread you aren’t interested in? You can scroll right on past, y’know? That’s a you thing.
Ok I’m gonna post the next Canucks GDT on the main board. If anyone has a problem with that it’s on them.

Broadcasting legend. He did other sports extremely well before deciding to live rent-free in the heads of hockey fans as Boston's TV PBP guy.

He looks great despite the obvious issues with his speaking ability. I'm supposed to hate him, but I actually thought he was entertaining and knowledgeable. Nothing but good wishes for him.

Wish him health, but he's an asshole who repeatedly cheered opponents' injuries and went beyond the accepted level of homerism. I 100% get how you'd like him as a bruins fan, but his reputation will never be scrubbed. He's a clown
