Value of: Jack Drury for similarly aged LD

Somewhat surprisingly, news recently came out that Jack Drury, at some point last season, requested a trade out of CAR. Drury, while not setting the league on fire, is already a solid bottom 6 forward defensively. His top end is likely a solid 3C. He’s got 1 more year left on his ELC.

Assuming he is traded this off-season, what sort of return could CAR expect?

Personally, if he’s not part of a larger package for a top 6 upgrade, I’d like to see him traded for an equivalent young LD, like a Zach Jones or Ryan Johnson.

I would think the trade request was due to being stuck in the minors at the time. Hanging on to him would be the right move here IMO now that he seems to be a lock to make the roster.

He's simply not that good. The equivalent LD would be worth more, not to mention the fact he seems to be a primadonna kind of works against his value as well.

He was well above a point per game for Chicago on its Calder Cup run. Not that he should have been given a spot, but they didn’t give him a true opportunity to earn one either with 12 1-way contracts and Jarvis in his way. Frustration was natural under the circumstances.

In the end, he was getting Top 9 minutes for chunks of the playoffs. That says something about how they now feel about him, I would think.

Canes are trying to improve. Using drury to get someone who isn’t playing or is the lefty version of Coghlan doesn’t do us any good. He’ll be included in a roster upgrade. Plenty of lefty 3D available
