Campbell seems like the kind of personality that would give a discount but I thought the same of Hyman. Campbell will be 30 by seasons end with an estimated career earnings of just under 4M. Hes had a long road to get to where he is and a lot of league min contracts. I'm sure he wants his payday and security too.

I think we could get a 5 year deal at or under 5 million, gives him security, solidifies the position and is way less than some of those 8+ million contracts. I see it going down like that, but time will tell. They may argue over the 6th year but if it gets it done just get er done lol.

But I see your points, all valid and well laid out. I hope for the best though and he seems genuine enough we should be able to keep him at a decent price I beleaf.

Campbell would have to have a really good season to get a Grubauer-type contract.

Getting more than that is not going to be on the table from anyone, and at this point, I don't see him getting much more than the Mrazek contract.

easy comparables would be dreiger and Nedeljkovic
between 3 and 3.5

I said it in the spring - my #1 off-season priority would be to sign this guy to an extension. Not happy at all the Dubas didn't agree.

We can give him security for a discount. Lock him up for 8 years, I'm pretty sure we'd get a deal on the AAV then.

If he earns #1 goalie money, can we afford a backup making 3.8x2?? Great insurance if Soup fails but if he succeeds, wonder what the Leafs thinking is.

Hopefully Jack signs the same contract as Mrazek did.

either way i have a feeling that Mrazek will be extremely, extremely tradeable next offseason at $3.8x2, after the year he will have with us.

This for me. I'd be wary of any extension until he proves he can show up in the big games.

He was fantastic in the playoffs, and playoff games are big games, or aren't they? Complaining about 1 bad goal over 7 games is ridiculous. If he proves himself even more in the playoffs next spring, his price will go way up.

Every contract is a gamble but IMO, gambling on Campbell now is the smart play.

8 years at 2.5 per. I think he takes it and the AAV is something we can live with. We offer security, he gets 20 million in the end. The longer we wait the more of a pipedream it will be that he takes it.

Seems unlikely to happen, just too weird. I was thinking 3-4 years in the summer, maybe 5. Somewhere between 3-4 million seems fair. And maybe closer to 3 if it's 5 years. And yeah the main point is that the longer we wait, the more it's gonna cost if he keeps playing well and I expect he will, I'm a believer.

I could see us signing Jack for about the same contract we have Mrazek
If he goes out & outplays Mrazek, I can't see how he could sign for any less. The Mrazek signing was a good one but a bit rich for me, definitely not a bargain like some of his other signings.

I think the Leafs advantage with Jack though is: 1) he's not proven (or much less proven compared to other starters); 2) has injury history; & 3) he seems to like it here finally finding himself in Toronto.

Once they experiment a bit of the tandem between Campbell & Mrazek, I'm hoping they get into extension talks sooner rather than later.

2.5 per? Absolutely no way.

I’m expecting 5 years around $5 mil per

he has made what? 4 or 5 in his entire career, he is going to be 30 this year. guarantee him 20 more million and call it a career. No way I'd give him 4 or 5 now, but if he has a great year and takes us deep in the playoffs. Yeah we would have to pay up. Take the 20 million guaranteed now, in 4 years or sooner he could be done who knows. He gets a big raise over his 1.6 and security.

plus he has had a ton of injuries over da years too .. hard for me to sign him long term when he is 29 and has played in 89 nhl games and only as da starter for 22 games last season .. 8 years for that resume i don't think so .. he could still be a total flop .. I hope we play out this year and see what he does .. our CAP situation is so bad right now that we can't afford a big mistake on anyone

If you can get the AAV down who cares how long the term is. Regardless of what direction Jack goes I doubt he makes 20 more million in his career. I'd be happy if we got him for a 2.5 AAV. Thats not a crippling amount incase he does turn out to be a flash in the pan.

A decent season and he'll be looking for more than that I would think.

I hope da best for da guy too .. really likeable guy .. but 1st I want to know if he can handle a 60 game load starter season and then can take team on a playoff run .. then he deserves da starter $$$ .. but if he gets hurt again and/or stumbles and can only handle 20-30 games then no matter how he plays we can't roll like that for years no matter what da AAV .. team needs a starting tender who can carry/win for team in playoffs bottom line .. we have not done a good job of drafting and developing tenders so unfortunately we are in a bad spot as a team looking to outside .. looks like Woll is hurt again and Scott is always hurt
