Wow. I guess we need to give him a little more PP1 time. So who is the future competition? Jones, Dahlin...heiskanen?In the last 33 years, the lowest Norris trophy winner had 50 points (Blake and Chara).

So you’re saying he’s a bust?Still a work in progress, though his play in the playoffs was close to elite.
He's going to be very good in 2-3 years, but maybe we expect too much of him.
Biggest issue are those bad turnovers in his own D-zone, that has to be corrected.
rtp...did you purposely misspell "idiot" on you avatar? So you’re saying he’s a bust?

he does turn the puck over. But so does PK Subban, John Carlson,Aaron Ekblad and Brent Burns who all had more giveaways then Provorov.
The kid is approaching elite level for a defenseman.

I'm surprised you replied to that hilariously misinformed post to be honest
Extend him now
Provorov has a way to go, people tend to go to extremes, players are either overrated or totally trashed around here.
Just looking at the 35 D-men who had 1400+ 5x5 minutes, the guys who carry their defense:
Provorov
14th in PP/60
21st in Corsi
25th in CorsiRel
22nd in xGF
23rd in xGFrel
I'd say he's 20th or so overall among the #1 type defensemen
The top D-men:
ranking - pp60 - Corsi/CorsiRel - xGF/xGFrel
Hamilton 9th - 2nd/2nd - 3rd/2nd
Klingberg 2nd - 9th/12th - 4th/5th
Karlsson 1st - 20th/4th - 29th/12th
Hedman 3rd - 14th/21st - 9th/22nd
Giordano 18th - 1st/1st - 1st/1st
Slavin 19th - 3rd/19th - 5th/6th
Letang 30th - 4th/9th - 6th/8th
Jones 12th - 6th/7th - 11th/18th
Burns 11th - 8th/3rd - 14th/25th
Doughty 16th - 11th/8th - 17th/4th
Werenski 15th - 7th/11th - 10th/19th
Subban 13th - 16th/22nd - 18th/25th
Suter 23rd - 16th/10th - 2nd/3rd
Lindell 31st - 12th/15th - 7th/14th
People talk about him as if he's already an elite defenseman.
Someday perhaps, but not today.
Provorov would be the first to tell you he has a lot of areas to work on, cutting down on turnovers, improving his skating, learning how to run a power play, etc.
Look, I was one of the earliest supporters of THE MACHINE.
I think in 2-3 years he's going to be a top ten defenseman, but he's not quite there yet.
To me, the term "elite" is meaning less if it applies to more than a handful of players.
Provorov is certainly a #1 defenseman, and he's probably around 20th in the league at age 21.
But to be elite to me means you in the top 5-10 at most. Otherwise it falls prey to the Lake Woebegone effect.
To be "a generational talent" you have to be the best (or close to best) player for an extended period, McJesus is a generational talent, EK is not.
Lol there’s no overrating a 21 year old defenseman who is already your teams #1 defender.
If he has a ways to go I can’t wait to see what he plays like when he is say 23/24.
