Player Discussion Ivan Demidov: Welcome to Montreal

I thought he'll return in Montreal during Development Camp. On July 2025.

Best decision to stay at Montreal during the summer!

Vacations terminatedou! Workedou sessions!

I'm so glad we don't have both of them, 2 additional snipers would be illegal in Montreal. Can't have that.
Sigh.. imagine MichDemidov on the PP with Cole and Nick...

There's a saying: too many cooks in the kitchen. There's a reason teams usually don't have two superstar wingers that play very similar roles. Its redundant. The last team to have it was probably the Blackhawks with Kane and Panarin. Eventually you'll have to pay for of them north of 10 mil. And that will create deficits in other parts of your lineup.

Case and point, look at the Leafs

Didn't hurt Detroit, Colorado in their prime, or the Panthers... the Leafs have a soft core, zero KARAKTER where it matters. Also great goaltending can solve a lot of shit, something Leafs have NEVER had. 90's and 2000's teams had plenty of firepower to go around, it all worked out. Also from a fan perspective, I don't think anyone is complaining about 10 years of two high powered russian snipers, especially from a financial point of view. The marketing and jersey sales would be amazing

There was no salary cap then.

With respect mentioning any team prior to the salary cap is irrelevant. The redundancy I mentioned is specifically linked to the cap.

We could easily fit in a couple snipers if we didn't have the Price, Gallagher, Anderson albatross contracts hanging over our heads lol
Not really. You have to take into account the habs having to sign probably the two best players and franchise pieces during their run. They'll probably ask for at least 10 mil each. Then you have to think about replacing Anderson and Gallagher on the third line. Then getting a 2C (you can argue that Laine's departure offsets that). Then another top 4 RHD. And then Reinbacher getting an extension in probably 3 years. Then what about having to actually give your goalie decent money instead of the relative peanuts that Monty gets. By then Dobes will probably be an established backup asking for actual backup money.

Where can you fit michkov? This core may be able to stay together if Hughes and Gorton sell the team building dynamic to the young guys. Add in another 10+ mil winger and you have absolutely no shot

Are you referring to Colorado/Detroit in the 90s early 2000s?

They had a ton of talented wingers but their main superstars were at C/D (+ Roy for Colorado).

The best example of a winning team with two superstar wingers in history, on top of my head, were the Detroit Red Wings of the early 1950s, with Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay. Although they also had Red Kelly and Marcel Pronovost on defense, Terry Sawchuk in net, and a bunch of other great players like Sid Abel and Alex Delvecchio.

Obviously Montreal in the 1950s had an older Rocket Richard, Bernard Geoffrion and Dickie Moore, but the team was really built around Jean Béliveau, Doug Harvey and Jacques Plante, so not a good example.
