Player Discussion Ivan Demidov: Welcome to Montreal

What are you trying to achieve with this obvious mockery?
I don't think Demidov would get more points than Ribeiro in his d+1 in the juniors. Demidov would have need to score 200pts in the Q to surpass Ribeiro.

The Q had 14 100 point players when Ribeiro played his d+1 lmao, it wasn't exactly the hardest league to put up points in.

There was 1 100 point player in the Q this year.

This is without mentioning that Demidov just beat the record for most points by a U20 in the KHL. Comparing Ribeiro's D+1 to Demidov's record breaking D+1 is actually pretty funny. Then again, probably a troll.

I agree that Kovalev is the closest we have in meaningful comparison skill-wise. Having seen like you Kovalev’s whole career, I want to be on the record right now that Demidov will be superior.
One thing Kovalev had over Demidov for now is size. Almost the same height but Kovalev weighed 225-230.

Demidov needs the stregnth to shake off grab and hold specialist. Or smash another Tucker wannabe...

As good as Demidov is I think the 1st line is set in stone for now. They all complete each other too well to separate. Demidov gonna have to stay on the second line for now
The first line shouldn't be touched. It works fine.

Demidov finally gives us legit secondary scoring. Just go with it as is for now. Next year we can look at maybe playing around with things if we get a decent 2nd line center.

I'm a Habs fan for longer then most..65 years if you count the first time my father put me on his shoulders to see the Cup parade in Montreal...

In all that time, first time I'm stunned by the level of talent this kid has. Forget all our 70s hall of famers, this kid is going to be at Kovalevs level of genius. Beside his Russian videos, in just two points, he showed a level of vision and anticipation that are Gretzky level. Now before I see a parade of "oh my God, you're crazy" posts, what made Gretzky great is his vision and we are going to need a season of Demidov to elevate him that high, but we may, just may have even more then we thought we had.

Stay tuned...(and Hughes, get him a fn center)
I don't see anything similar between Kovalev and Demidov aside that they are Russians and can stickhandles in a phone booth. Kovalev was more of a puck hog trying to deke everyone and had great puck protection skills with his strength and size. His shot was also better than Demidov by a fair margin. Kovalev and genius doesn't fit imo. His hockey sense was pretty limited. He was just insanely technically skilled.

On the other hand, Demidov is what I call a hockey genius in the mold of the Fedorov, Larionov, Datsyuk, Kaprizov and Kucherov. The kid oozes hockey sense. It's like he's a mix of all of them with the edge work similar to Hutson and skating style that is unique to Demidov. When he's on the ice, you just notice him right away. Only great players like him has that kind of Auras.

Kovalev was not big at all when he played with the Rangers in his early 20s.

But I have seen him often in person when he was with Mtl and the dude was so impressive without his equipment.

Unbelievable chariama as well. When he had his long blond haïr and the way that he walked...everybody was looking at him even if people did not knew him.

That dude had a big f.. presence .....it is hard to discribe.

The actor Viggo Mortensen talked about that in a interview 15 years ago...he said that he met many Hollywood actors obviously and no one had the charisma and prestence that Alex Kovalev had in person.

It’s crazy he did it with how dicked around he was. People are so hyped on him and I feel like we’ll still have underrated him. I think he’s special even amongst the elites.

I think we’ll be in tough this series but Im positive the Caps are gonna have their hands full with him in an exploitation role.
He’s our ace in the hole and I think he’ll shine

It's not about any shiny new toy. It's the quality of that toy. An NHL coach doesn't have to be right a 100% of the time. What kind of argument is that?
What would you know about the quality of the toy 2 games in?

He’s clearly a great player, but he also made a few major defensive mistakes.

Just because you want to see the shiny new toy play more doesn’t mean an nhl coach has to agree that it is the best way to win games.
I probably don't know much or any better but i somehow doubt Pezzetta playing in the top 12 is the best way to win games in the long term or even mid term and dunno why but i think i'll end up being proven right. Could be wrong obviously.

Protect this kidou at any cost! At any cost!

I just saw him doing a add with Olivier Primeau...

What about the major defensive mistakes of Mike Matheson and other players? No one else makes mistakes? Is that an argument for not playing him?

This is exactly what we're talking about when we mention other traditional coaches who give leeway to veterans but not young players. If a kid is not put in a high stakes position, how will he learn? These playoffs should also serve as a learning experience. We're not the Maple Leafs where winning is the only viable option.

So because you can't evaluate a pospect's qualities over a large sample size, therefore he should never play in important situations? You've seen the abilities. You have a preliminary evaluation. Now, if that evaluation is positive, you play him, and you continue to evaluate as you go along, simple as that.

Anyway, I think this argument is moot. MSL will play him and try to use that ace up his sleeve.
