Player Discussion Ivan Demidov: Welcome to Montreal

How many brother pairs have been of comparable talent?

Just the Sedin twins and they were ... Twins.
Teemu Selanne had a twin brother too, Paavo Selanne. But unfortunately someone had the bright idea of having Paavo play goalie as a kid instead of 1C for his brother. So Teemu Selanne was basically "Daniel Sedin without his Henrik" for his whole career.

Dvorak had great chemistry with Marner in London who has similar tendencies as Demidov. I think he can play with skill players unlike Newhook and Evans. He hasn't really gotten much of an opportunity to do that in MTL but I would give Demidov a try with Dvorak to start the playoffs. It would give him a linemate who can execute plays and give the line a defensive conscience.

Having some guy named Matthew Tkachuk also helped a lot….

Odd that Kapanen wasn't told to give the number up and/or Kapanen should have given the #91 himself upon knowing this information..

smh
Why would he just give it up to another rookie? You want the number...do it the traditional way, buy him a watch or something he wants.

I agree. Demidov already has the "special treatment" as a high profile rookie, no need to put the red carpet out.

#91 is better than #93, as 93 reminds me of Doug Gilmore

#91 is the legendary Sergei Fedorov's number. It fits Demidov like a glove.
Demidov is going to be better than Fedorov but w/e

Dvorak would be a good fit with Demidov but Demidov is nothing like Marner.

The NHL has a rule preventing players from giving up their number to a rookie. This is a privilege reserved for veterans. At least that's what I heard on a youtube podcast

Can't they just revoke Kapanen's contract and give to Demidov what belong to Demidov?

Ok I asked what Kapanen thinks about that idea:

I agree with him.

I understood that Kapanen is planning on grabbing #27 next season, which would free up #91 for Demidov. I just feel bad for all the fans who buy a #93 jersey

The #93 Demidov jerseys will be pretty valuable in the future. I get what you mean though. I'd wear 93 also the coming seasons if I had it though, it would be kinda cool.

I don't think that's true. However, I think there is a rule which prevents players from changing their numbers during the season.

WTF does that even mean?

The Winter War and The Continuation War have been over for 80 years. On what planet does 21st Century Russia first-strike invade across a border filled with lakes, boggy terrain, forests and a NATO article 5 umbrella unless the Finnish government is crazy enough to allow obvious preparations for a US first strike from its territory?

Ahhhh yes that's it, they will carry out covert assassinations against the families of Finnish hockey players for "disrespecting" Russian hockey players instead. That will show them!

Jesus H Christ.
Certain commentators cannot contain themselves from making bozo geopolitical commentary where there needn’t be any.

You’d think with Demidov on the team we’d see less of it…
