Player Discussion Ivan Demidov: Welcome to Montreal

It's crazy. Every time i criticize Newhook i feel bad cause the kid is trying. Can't blame him for not working and trygin that's for sure. But man the amount of chances he missed last game given to him on a gold plate by Demidov was crazy. The most baffling one was in OT when Demidov was all alone and Newhook had like an entire life time to pass him the puck for a breakaway and he could not pull it off. I was literally screming to my TV "my grandma would have done it *&/&*?&"/*(".
Newhook in a nutshell he doesn't recognize the obvious play quick enough for this league.
There is a reason he doesn't get many assists and it isn't because he doesn't have the puck enough.

We don't have very many forwards who can make that play on time Suzuki for sure Caufield maybe.
The reason I'm intrigued about how a Suzuki Demidov duo would work over time is because of both players ability to know when to take open space and when to put the puck there.

Look at some of Nick Suzuki's most important goals and see how he finds those areas by instinct. What is really incredible is the number of times he does it in any given game and isn't fed properly.

3 players with the hands to hold the puck to make a play but also high end processing to make a quick read when appropriate: Suzuki, Hutson, Demidov.

I’d like to see Demi and Suzuki working together. Arguments to be made for Caufield or Slaf as the complement.

Yeah I think they will be looking at duos for sure.
Not necessarily because they'll go to it right away but because most good teams have the depth to tinker with when things are off.
Marty would have made far more moves this season if he had more talent particularly early on when we struggled.
We were so desperate at one point we were clamoring for Heineman to be bumped.

Many of us thought Cole Caufield and Kirby Dach could become the thing that would help us exploit our scoring.
It's possible there comes a time when Cole is asked to lead his own line in scoring without Nick but we need that 2C.

I can see Granlund as a UFA this summer as the stop-gap until Hage is ready.
I have a feeling they'll look for someone with more size, so no Granlund or Duchene.

The playoffs will give us more information. But I hated it when MB would make his whole offseason plan based on what happened in the first round of a round one playoff exit.

That’s definitely not how HuGo have operated so far.

Maybe but I would see it more a beck and 2 firsts instead of hage , as they would want a closer to the nhl player in my opinion
It’s Sidney F’ing Crosby, Pittsburgh sports icon. It’s going to require a Hage-level prospect and picks to get him here, and that’s only if he agrees to be traded.

If Crosby picks where he wants to go, they won't be blocking that trade over trying to get one of our top 3 prospects.

MSL didn't get a single prospect in the trade to the Rangers. It was all picks and then someone to balance out salary.

Really? Look at the last draft. And when they drafted Slaf, they said: we need to get bigger.
I was responding to the first round playoff loss argument, so no, that was definitely not the case. Saying you need a mix of all types of players and avoiding redundancy is not the same thing as what you’re trying to argue here.

Ah, I wasn't arguing the current management has operated that way. I was more complaining about the previous one.
