Player Discussion Marco Rossi

Again, the genesis of Rossi trade discussion is Russo putting him in rumors + Guerin bucking his recent normal trend with young players of getting extensions done early (Boldy, Faber, even Wallsted).

I have no feeling that anybody here actually wants to trade Rossi.

I’m really impressed at how far he has come. He’s a legit good player for them now and I can’t imagine they are still looking to move him. If anything the rumors look to be a motivation now, not serious.

IMO

I certainly don't dislike the lineup but Brock Nelson is going to command real term and salary and I find it hard to believe Guerin would go and get him just to play him in the bottom six. And it really seems like he's the team's big FA target come the offseason.
You underestimate BG's inability to resist his urges and not waste assets on trading for him around the deadline. 😕

Russo ain't a guru. Good journalist, but all this trade Rossi is just BS, especially for a team chronically starved of good centers.
23 years old. I would guess he might improve having a mere 160 games of NHL experience.
Especially given the fact he has a work ethic.

Remember on draft day. many felt like he fell into the Wild's lap, like Boldy, like Wallstedt, like Buium.

Forces are at work here folks.

I don't think Russo is a guru or even very good at actually hockey analysis. But I'm 100% sure he has more Wild contacts in his phone than I do. So I can't outright dismiss things that he "reports".

Agreed. I thought there was smoke there at certain points, but I think the answer is that they are waiting to see what Kap wants. And previously were waiting to see what the cap would look like.

There has been a lot of criticism about Rossi lately in every thread. So I'm bumping the Player thread because we need another one.

Seriously austrian press has reported that Rossi's agent just recently turned down a contract offer by Wild:

I really do believe that Rossi wants to get out of Minnesota. He doesn't get the recognition and standing he should get after his improvement every season. Other franchises value and cherish their young, improving players. In Rossis case, the wild clearly don't, especially if u compare rossis situation to Boldy/Faber.

Rossi is playing through a rough stretch, there is no doubt about that. We also know that this is his sophmore season and especially young players should be allowed to have bad games too. We don't know if he's injured. Also his uncertain contract situation could affect him.

Rossi seems to be the only player on the roster who gets demoted instantly when he OR the team as whole plays bad. Other players do have rough stretches as well but they don't get demoted. It's always Rossi. And to be honest if I were Rossi, this would piss me off too.

Oh yes, of course it's just a coincidence that Rossi finds himself on the fourth line when his agent has turned down the contract offer by minnesota.

His game last night was possibly the worst one I have seen of him in a Wild jersey, he was outright bad in his only shifts and stood out as a liability while the rest of the team was playing well. He has been the worst performing player on the worst performing line in both games of this series so far. That's not to say he isn't a good, young, still developing player, or that he can't turn things around, but complaining about his ice time after what he just displayed is full on dissonance for what a playoff team needs out of a center.

I disagree. He was invisible yes. But he didn't make any big mistakes. He's playing with scrubs hardly 10 minutes a night. It's interesting what you can judge out of that little TOI on the 4th line.

Rossi has played far worse two years ago.

Hartman has flat out been better than him lately and was able to show enough with Trenin & Brazeau to earn a promotion. Gaudreau is a better defensive player. If he wants to be higher in the lineup, he needs to come out and earn it.

Might just be youthful inconsistency or most likely he has a nagging injury or two he is playing through or might be he doesn’t like it here and is mailing it in. If it’s the latter, I’ll be glad to see him gone. Even if it’s an underwhelming return. Can’t have an $7-8M floating undersized C who won’t engage in physical games.

There’s also the fact that Vegas is just a nightmare matchup for him. They have 6 big defenseman and a heavy bottom 6. He will learn to adjust in time, but he’s clearly not there yet.

I do not think he wants out of MN. That's not his character at all. However he probably wants to be paied fairly (in his eyes of course). One doesn't necessarily mean the other and I am sure we are not at the end of negotiations regarding a new contract.

I was curious about this article from the Austrian press but it seems like there's nothing new there. It's just referring to information from Russo on The Athletic. So basically this idea that Rossi wants out involves some heavy-duty reading between the lines (unless Google Translate has let me down)

no it is exactly that. That site also has no source "on the inside" at all. It's just a recap of the things floating around for people who do not really follow NHL hockey or the Wild. The source is always/only Russo.

He wasn’t invisible, he was straight up falling over himself, and lost every positioning battle he was involved in by large margins.

This is just a flat out lie.
Hartman, who had manned the top line the past 2 seasons (in general), was demoted because he wasn’t playing well.

Zucc was demoted.

If Rossi is going to be doing “woe is me”, I’d prefer to trade him.

And Rossi is in the fourth line because he’s playing like shit. That’s it. No other reason.

I don’t want to speculate about Rossi wanting out. He’s by all accounts an amazing kid with character through the roof. I don’t think he’s playing the blame game or telling himself he’s being treated unfairly.

I haven't heard "woe is me" from Rossi, just from some posters who support Rossi. His demotion lately is due to his current level of play, and I haven't seen him sulk publicly about it. I wouldn't expect to, either; Rossi has always been the player who takes adversity as a learning experience and then attacks it in the off-season.

Zero whining from Marco. It's true that he isn't producing now, but I am pretty sure he is playing hurt. Remember, we wouldn't even be in the playoffs if it wasn't for him. He had a vg year, and was one of our main point producers.

I've also though Freddy has been pretty poor so far. It's only two games, though. Maybe he is doing a great job defensively, and I am just not noticing it. Defense is an important, but thankless task.
